ever get a market report that looks great.... then try to actually sell there?

i work in export sales and this happened to me recently. we were looking at a new market and the numbers looked pretty good on paper. Growing demand, decent market size, all that stuff.

Then I started looking at the companies actually operating there. And... it was a very different picture.

A lot of the companies from the report weren't really relevant to what we sell, while some smaller companies I hadn't even heard of seemed much more active.

Kinda made me realize there's a big difference between "this market is growing" and "there are actually companies buying my product."

How do u guys usually bridge that gap when researching a new market?

Do u start with market reports and statistics, or go straight into company level data?

how do u work out the real cost of paying contractors abroad?

been tryin to get a clearer picture of what we’re actually paying when sending money to contractors in different countries
the advertised fees are usually easy enough to compare but FX is where it gets confusing. sometimes the fee looks low and then there’s still a noticeable difference between what we budgeted and what actually lands on the other side.
I’ve been comparing 4dev, SalaryHub and a couple other options, but I’m finding it harder to compare the exchange rate part than the actual platform fee
for anyone running a small business with international contractors, how do u normally check this? compare against the central bank rate yourself, ask for the full FX breakdown or just look at what the contractor actually receives?

grammar placement says B2 but speaking says otherwise?

been running into this a lot lately. our intake process was mostly a short grammar placement test and on paper some students were coming in around B2
then classes would start and teachers would message us saying a few of them were really struggling once they actually had to speak under pressure. made me realise we were probably relying way too much on written grammar scores
we’ve started looking at ways to add a proper speaking check. a colleague mentioned SmallTalk2Me, so we tested it with a few students our teachers had already flagged. the speaking scores were lower than the original grammar placement for some of them, which at least matched what the teachers were seeing in class….Cambridge placement also came up while we were comparing options, but I’m still trying to work out what makes sense for a program where new cohorts come through pretty often
how are u guys handling speaking placement? separate speaking interviews, automated tests, teacher scoring or a mix of everything?
thanks

what actually helped your 7yo stick to routines?

my 7 yr old keeps falling out of the same routines, mostly mornings, homework and bedtime…. nothing extreme but I feel like I’m repeating myself all day and somehow we still end up rushing or arguing
we’ve tried checklists, reminders and giving warnings before switching activities. they work for a few days, then the novelty wears off and we’re back to square one
parents with kids around this age, what actually helped long term? timers, visual schedules, rewards, doing everything together or just staying consistent and waiting it out??
