Is buying and collecting physical (MGS) games going to become a thing of the past? Sony has announced that it will stop releasing physical games from 2028 onwards.

I collect, like many people in this sub, MGS games and merchandise. For example, I bought the Delta Deluxe Edition for the PS5. I don’t even own a PS5… (yet). I’m also planning to get the Master Collection 2 for PS5 with the steelbook, because it fits nicely with my collection and so that, in the future, when I buy a PS5, I can be sure I’ll be able to play the games because I have them on disc.

No doubt, just like GTA 6, they’ll release a “physical” game with a voucher or something similar inside. But that’s different from having it on a disc. You have full control over your games when you own them physically. With digital games, you haven’t really bought the game; you’re buying a licence to play it and you’re not actually the owner.

I’m curious what this will mean for MGS in the future.
