Lie Angle Issue

I played golf for years wrong, very poor swing with almost no wrist hinge. When doing so I held the club very upright and found PING green dots worked well (2 deg upright).

The issue is, I am 5ft8 and have since had a year of lessons and now swing a lot better. I have been for a fitting and they suggested black dot (0 deg). I am still a 30+ handicap so don't want to invest a lot of money until I improve but is it worth moving to a cheap set of standard lie angle clubs sooner rather than later?
