I’m 19. Will I die prematurely? (Climate change)

Hey y’all. I have been in a pretty bad doom-scroll for several years now on various bad things but more recently have I been getting a lot of anxiety regarding the climate. I have fears that, as a result of climate change making the world unlivable, I will die prematurely (30s-40s). Not trying to say it will happen, that is what I’m trying to ask. I just wanted to know if, realistically speaking, this is something I should be learning to accept/prepare for or if I’m just working myself up. While this question is slightly personal it’s also more about the overall impacts of climate change and how serious it’ll be for us in the upcoming years. Sort of a basic question but it seems everything I see regarding climate and peoples feelings towards it is different so I’m just asking the hard question upfront. Can/will it become serious enough in the next 20-30 years that many will die?

Evolutionary purpose for class/social hierarchy?

Just curious, but evolutionarily speaking, what purpose does having bc a class/social hierarchy behavior serve for a species? Specifically the way that certain monkeys do it (including us).

Now I don’t know much about animal behavior, but from what I’ve seen, most other highly intelligent animals seem to have a heiarchy that benefits everyone, or everyone is in a sense equal/accommodated to be (such as how wolf packs travel) for the survival of everyone.

However, I’m thinking of those hot spring macaques where they have a real complex social hierarchy, where those born in a certain “dominant” family get to experience the warmth of the hot springs, whereas those who aren’t get left out in the cold to freeze. This makes me wonder, why? Just seems like a way for less genetic diversity among the species and seemingly pointless deaths of individuals in the population. I get competing for resources, but often times there seems to be enough room to share. I also understand the desire for “stronger” traits to be passed on, but after several generations, does that still stand? Seems like the “lower-ranked” monkeys that survive through the cold will instead be the ones with the stronger genes then. I know the individual monkeys don’t really think about the survival of the species or even why they’re doing these behaviors in the first place, but why was this behavior formed? Is there some sort of benefit to the species?

What can we actually do about billionaires / mega-corps?

Hey y’all, I’ve been feeling this vibe in the air that everyone is kinda fed up about the state of the world and such rn, but like most people I don’t really know exactly what to do about it. A lot of the internet at least for me rn is doomscroll and political news which is of course needed to stay informed but in my case it is just about stuff that is terrible going on that genuinely I have no idea how to start doing something against it (ex: AI datacenters, earth being destroyed, economy destroyed, billionaires destroying community and people’s quality of life, etc.). Idk about y’all but it’s just been giving me a terrible gut/doom feeling and even more terrible anxiety, and I’m sure there’s a lot of others feeling the same way…tired and fed up but also just don’t know what exactly to do, so that is why I am asking here. I try to limit my own consumption as much as I can (only buy second hand/thrift, refuse to buy from places like Amazon, lower plastic as much as I can, etc.) But that to me just still doesn’t feel enough I guess? There’s still a lingering gut feeling like there should be more happening, but not sure what. When doing research on this, I’ve heard to call or send emails to local governors and such, but I’m not sure what exactly I would talk to them about or what specifically I want changed, I really think this whole system needs to be reevaluated, Idk. Any advice on what I and others could actually do? bonus if there’s some advice for younger folks too who may not have a car and/or don’t have money to drive long distances/make large donations (tho I do try to donate when I can).

Keep on seeing these around my desk…what are they? (Florida)

Hey y’all, these past few days I have been noticing these near microscopic bugs around my desk. I have tried to Google what they are but nothing seems to match what this is. I’ve attached a video of one, they’re a sort of orangish/light brown and super super small. I just want to make sure that they aren’t eating my desk or they aren’t the babies of something scarier 😖 if y’all could also help give me some tips on warding off these things that would be great.

Need a new iPhone—what should I get?

My current phone is an iPhone 8, which has lasted me around 8 or 9 years at this point, so I definitely am due for a replacement. I am looking for something similar to what I had before: smaller size (def don’t want anything huge like the 15/16+), durable (I drop my phone a lot), better quality camera, and a decently long battery life. I want this phone to be long-lasting, so I can use it for hopefully as many years as my 8. I don’t do anything on my phone other than text, photos, and GPS, so I don’t need anything too complicated. Just wanted to hear some recommendations. Price is not an issue atm.
