/r/fromseries locked to New Posts until 12 PM EST Tuesday

Good evening everyone, you may have noticed we've restricted new posts in the sub until Tuesday at 12 AM EST. We are having way too much duplicate threads and especially a lot of criticism of the show overfilling the sub in the middle of a brand new team being put in place.

We understand this might upset some, but there was simply too much of a perfect storm happening on the sub all at once. Please take any discussion of season 4 into one of two megathreads made earlier.

Much love from the brand new team at /r/fromseries. It's a new era for everyone.

[Town Hall] New Leadership in Fromville: Gathering Community Consensus Regarding Content & Rules

There is now new moderation implemented in r/FromSeries. For the season finale, Reddit Admins & mod reservists (thank you to all the reservists including u/shady_slimu/rcnfiveu/flattenedbricksu/phareous, u/honey_rainbow, and u/marbleXeno for sticking around) will be helping us keep the subreddit in orderly shape for the short-term during this awkward transition as we aim to get the subreddit in proper shape by the time Season 5 rolls around.

We're going to leave this thread up for the next few days so the community has ample opportunity and agency to weigh in on how we as a new team can continue the course and make corrections as needed. This includes bringing up suggestions, talking about things you have seen posted that may not full sense to belong in the sub, rule changes, etc. Do keep in mind that our team is currently still in the process of getting ourselves sorted together while we assess the current state of the sub alongside the wider community here: changes will be slow.

Anyway sorry, gotta go, we'll talk later at Colony House.

Toy Story 5 is out: which new character makes the best codename for a release?

Title is self-explanatory. Six new characters mean six new codenames that can be used, since Debian gets release names from the Toy Story franchise. Who are you going with first from the new film?

Subreddit Town Hall 2026: How are we doing?

Hi everyone! It’s time to give your feedback on the state of the subreddit in a Town Hall starting from today (June 3rd) to July 3rd. It's been three months since the subreddit was placed under new management, and I've figured this is enough time for people to gather an initial opinion about how things feel regarding the new r/debian after living in it for a little bit.

Town Hall Conduct: Remember that Rule No. 1 is still in effect: Treat others with kindness & respect per the standards of the Debian Code of Conduct to the best of your abilities. Personal attacks on individual users, including mods, will not be tolerated. Use the report function if you see this happening.

Town Hall Context: r/debian was created in March 2008, but the original head mod who created the sub left it alone for a significant portion of time, roughly 16 years, on autopilot (essentially an unchecked Mod Code of Conduct violation). By the time New Reddit came into existence (according to our internal statistics, the grand majority of our users use New Reddit), the subreddit had only one rule and any moderation was done by automod with content being removed via three reports. It was also very bare-bones in design compared to many of the other major Linux subs.

We've made policy since taking over the sub based on the consensus we've gathered from the initial threads back in March, but that was immediately after the subreddit was unlocked & in an active state of being transitioned from collecting dust to being heavily reworked. Since the "dust has settled" more or less regarding the transition period, I felt this would be a good time to get some actual feedback on how our changes are working out in practice.

Town Hall Outcomes: We will be listening to feedback on this mega-thread starting on June 3. After July 3, the mods will lock this thread in order to thoroughly review feedback. Please remember it takes time to update the sub, and be patient with us.

What on earth is going on with the OpenVic discord?

The title is self explanatory, a dev pinged everyone saying the project is at a crossroads and progress has been brought to a halt. I just got timed-out and banned for asking what is going on while most of their own discord is throwing around ableist & racial slurs. Does anyone know what's going on with their project? It looks to be dying or their project devs are fighting each other.

How bad is the episode order in the complete DVD box set?

Title related. I just got the box set as a gift and I'm well aware of the issues with it. I intend to put everything into Jellyfin with the intention of getting as close to a correct episode order as possible. This might be a rough ask, but what seasons are correct and what are not? Has anyone else done the Jellyfin/Plex route?

Re-Terminating Debian Community Stoat

A while back I reopened the Revolt/Stoat server for those wanting a FOSS alternative to our Discord server in the wake of age verification hitting that platform. We are now killing it off again after a series of issues trying to maintain it. You can read my original post from five months ago over at https://reddit.com/r/debian/comments/1qmtpf6/the\_debian\_community\_revolt\_server\_has\_been\_shut/ since a lot of reasons are still relevant including a horrible moderation tool strategy that makes it too difficult for large servers.

If you are impacted by this change, you should consider hitting the Fluxer server or go back to the Discord server if Fluxer doesn't check all your boxes (and if it doesn't, honestly nothing will because Fluxer is as excellent of a FOSS alternative as you will get). Feel free to check our Community Chats sticky thread for the links.

Better to buy full series digitally or get Season 1-7 physically?

Noticed that one of the retro game stores I go to frequently have S1-6 on Blu-ray and 7 on DVD. I never really cared about the coma seasons, but how good are the physical releases versus me getting the whole series on Vudu?
