Curb bulb outs: hazard or menace to bikelanes ?

At intersection corners and some midblock crosswalks, buld-outs require cyclists to swerve from curbside riding out into general traffic right at the point where traffic is constricted or require cyclists to ride up a curb on a sloppy ill-marked, narrow ramp, and share space with lingering pedestrians even when the cyclist has a green light. Is there an NYC DOT example of bulbouts where the bikelane is wide, straight, and suited to maintaining cyclist speed to catch a green wave of traffic lights ?

Toggle view: station's count of Bikes vs Open Docks broken in Android app.

I see only bikes at each station, but no P to toggle to available open docks to confirm parking availability or abundance at the destination.

CitiBike Forest Hills, Queens expansion: 75 % complete; Austin St near LIRR, neckdowns, daylighting; 10/10 would ride again.

Stations use the new round dock mini-tower; most stations have no kiosk. Many stations are positioned upstream of intersections, which is excellent for intersection daylighting. CitiBike access to Forest Hills LIRR from Austin St is an important supplement to Woodside LIRR. Station by Jewel Ave and GCP is perfect for rides through FMCP. No complaints !

App Map showing closed streets but open (operating) stations near MSG.

Kudos for incorporating some real-time road conditions into the app map.

App map should show street names, but often doesn't in real use. Need to pan and zoom in/out so much to find a street name on these in-app Citibike maps.

I was provoked by u/admissionsexpert 's post about open dock counts. Need to pan and zoom in/out so much to find a street name on these in-app Citibike maps. W ?? St being occluded by p26 station also exudes design UX weakness.

New large wooden curbs are keeping cars off the Queensbridge Greenway lawn. As seen in May, 2026.
