First time trying HC-110 Dilution E

First time trying HC-110 Dilution E

Shot Ilford Pan 50F 120 on my Mamiya RB67. No light leaks on this roll, so either my fixes worked or it was too dark and too low of an ISO film to have leaking issues.

I have seen a lot of strategies for Pan 50F, but I decided to try dilution E to extend the development time a little bit and hopefully retain a little more highlight and shadow detail.

F8 1/2 sec, mostly exposed for the shadows, knowing the backlit leaves would be a little hot. I’m fairly happy with how much detail was retained.

Free FB paper vs buying RC

I was gifted a bunch of Ilford FB paper and also purchase a pack of 25 sheets of unbranded generic RC paper from a local camera shop. I have been so far washing the FB paper by hand, although I was also gifted a paper washing that I haven’t set up yet. The main thing is that the curling of the FB paper while drying is quite the pain and I’m still not getting perfectly flat prints after pressing under books for a few days.

I guess I’m asking the experts for recommendations here… stick with the free FB paper and maybe buy something to aid in flattening or just go with a higher quality RC paper and skip the FB hassle? Also, does the grade 3 paper I was gifted mean I can’t modify contrast with filters?

The first two prints were on FB and the second two on RC. Although I’ll admit the photos of the photos are hardly good enough to assess, I’m generally satisfied with the results on either paper (although I appreciate the evenness of the FB paper and richness across middle values).

First fiber prints

TMAX 400 developed 5.5 minutes in HC-110. I was gifted several boxes of Ilford Galerie 3, so I thought I would give them a try despite not knowing what I am doing still.

Print developer was 2 days old and nearly exhausted, so I might revisit this one with fresh dev so I can burn in the hot areas more.

First prints, tips welcome

Just got my enlarger setup roughly in place tonight and couldn’t help doing a quick test strip and a couple prints. I haven’t done any dark room stuff since high school in the mid 2000s.

I definitely need to figure out the easel setup, but I would appreciate any other tips and advice. The print feels a little harsher than the scanned negative to me (added for reference).

Ilford FP4 125 35mm

Print enlarged with a Bessler 45mx for 15 seconds at ~F8 (need to double check), generic RC paper, using Ilford multi grade developer at 9+1

Nikonos V Velvia, 2007

I love the idea of underwater photography, but I live in Nebraska so I get a chance about once or twice a decade so never invested in quality housings or flash setups. On a trip to Florida in 2007, I got the best setup I could afford: a used Nikonos V and some sort of Ikelite strobe. I was fairly accustomed to manual flash exposure through skateboard photography, but underwater was obviously a much greater challenge. Most of the velvia shots either had unbearable backskatter or major exposure or focus issues. Here are a few I found in an old box that were okay. Since I have enjoyed lurking in this sub and enjoying everyone’s great work, I thought I’d share.

Muir Woods Sunbeam

A place that has been heavily photographed by some of the greats for the past 100+ years, but I thought I might as well try my hand at it.

35mm color scan processing

I’m using a Canon R5 to DSLR scan film negatives and struggling to get the color right. This is Kodak Ektar 100 and two different color processing workflows. I won’t immediately say what I did for each because I don’t want to bias the results. I’ll add a comment with some details after I let this post marinade a bit.

Which do you prefer? Which would you recommend for reproducing the “true” film colors? Any additional recommendations?

Selfie[-ish] photos of an old timer

I was always the least good skater in our group, so that’s why I took up photography. After at least a 15 year skating hiatus, I have been getting back into both skating and photos. Here are a few selfies [sort of]. I set everything up and had my 10 and 11 year old kids snap the photos. It felt important to document I could do a few tricks before my body gives out.

Frontside hurricane

Not a lot of skate photos on this sub, so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to add one.

Getting back into it [Canon 1N, 35mm f/1.4&15mm f/2.8 fisheye, TMAX400]

Haven’t really shot film much since getting my first dslr (Canon 20D back in ~2005). Trying to get back into the analog world with a test role of TMAX400.
