Making caves

Just getting ready to introduce some Apistogramma to my 55 gallon tank and am adding some caves in the hope that they’ll breed. Not sure which species yet, but either cacuatoides or agassizii. These caves were 3d printed and the price is about $2 worth of material. Coke can shown for size reference.

Relaxing on the deck

If this was the deck of a cruise ship, these guys would be hanging out on the deck just chillin’ in the sun! As it is, I 3d printed an under-substrate cave and these guys just came out of it to relax on the surface. I love my corydoras 💕

Green phantom pleco magic?

So, I put a green phantom pleco in my 75 gallon fresh water tank a few months ago and since then I’ve literally not seen him. I have some island made of large stones and have gently moved things around trying to find him and no luck so far. It’s not a planted tank so aside from the rock caves and 1 or 2 pieces of driftwood, there are more limited places to hide.

Houdini ain’t got nothin’ on this pleco!

What are others’ experience with green phantoms?

All grown up!

Meet my little chonker, Radagast. Hard to believe that he was only 1 inch long when I bought him and now he’s a 6 inch BEAST who has his own zip code in my 55 gallon aquarium.

[LF] - Dayton - female Keyhole cichlid

Looking for an adult female Keyhole cichlid to improve my chances to breed because my current tank has 1 female and 3 males. Willing to pay usual shipping costs for live fish and I live in Ohio.

Another view of Keyhole fry

This picture is at 5x magnification. Multiple references ID this as Keyhole cichlid fry and it’s very tiny. My wife and I suspect there are some more hiding in an area being constantly patrolled by 4 adult Keyholes. Very funny to see the tank boss, an electric blue acara, being “politely” turned away by a group of Keyholes telling him:

“Nothing to see here. Move along, sir.”

Might be a Keyhole grandpa

(I posted a video for this but the video sucked, so here’s some still photos)

So my wife and I noticed that we had a baby fish hiding in the eaves of our 55 gallon tank’s driftwood. Of the fish we have in this tank, the only ones with mixed genders that we have are mollies and keyhole cichlids. Does this look like a keyhole cichlid to you, Cichlids-folk of Reddit?

Corydoras-only tanks?

I get so much joy out of the corydoras that live in a 4 of my home aquariums that it made me wonder if any of you have ever had, or currently have, a species only corydoras tank. Would you please tell me what you’ve done and what species has worked best for you

Gold Severum -cue the Barry White music

I was curious when both my adolescent gold Severum started doing this a day or two ago. Apparently this is pre-mating behavior of clearing off a place so eggs can be laid! No eggs visible yet but the nest has been prepared 😂

This one is MINE!

So I just picked up a container of PhytoDisc Plus, which are big algae wafers meant for lots of herbivorous and omnivorous fish including plecos. I dropped 2 of these in my 55 gallon tank and my pleco, Radagast, came out from hiding and muscled away 5 other fish including 2 Keyhole cichlids to claim that wafer as his own. At present he is voraciously scarfing it down while the cichlids just watch him doing it. Hysterical!

Bolivian ram aggression

So, I’m a bit befuddled by this dwarf cichlids…a Bolivian ram. I bought a pair of these from a LFS and one was trouble from the start. Initially I thought that the aggression being shown was simply stress from being relocated to a new tank but this fish has been hellbent on going after numerous fish now in 2 different tanks.

I did my research on this species extensively and everything that I have read says it’s a peaceful cichlid. It’s been bullying everything too slow to avoid him as it cruises around. It has even been bullying keyhole cichlids almost three times its size. The other ram I bought with this one…no issues at all. I can’t tell the gender on either but I’m pretty sure this is a male.

Has anyone else had this issue with Bolivian rams?

I’ve had a M/F pair of A. Macmasteri that I designed my 20 gallon long tank around. Up until recently, I was concerned that I wasn’t going to see them or that they just hadn’t settled in to a comfort zone in this tank. Well, they’re out and living large now after about 6 weeks. Their tank mates are some threadfin rainbows, glofish tetras, a 6-pack of assorted corydoras, a bristlenose pleco, and even a male plakat betta who’s just super chill and gets along fantastically. They have a nice cave that they inhabit and I’m hopeful that at some point that I might see some fry appear. Their color is so nice now!
