Going to start a mbuna tank next year, any tips?

I have a buddy whose African cichlids started breeding like crazy. Mbuna, peacock, you freaking name it. So he offered me some of the fish. I told him I will get some when I get a 55 gallon tank. (I have heard mbuna can go in there.) So before I start this tank can some of you give me things I need to know?

Things I already know: They need pH of 7.8 to 8.6 and hard water, and I need to highly stock the tank. They also need rockwork as well

Need Stocking Suggestions

Dimension: 36” x 24” x 15” (L x H x B)

Filter: Canister

So I scaped this tank for mbunas. But then I read that 3’ is too small for mbunas and the minimum length I should go for is 4’.

Is it possible to keep mbunas in this tank? If not, then what other colorful cichlid combination can I keep-that will use the caves and crevices in the rocks.

My blue

Would like some advice on what kind of fish I can keep with him. I have a 37gal tank. The glo fish were rescued with him and they seem to do just fine. I’ve been having them for some months now and they seem to respect each other. But I would like to add more fish or maybe a mate ? Thank you in advance!

Bolivian ram aggression

So, I’m a bit befuddled by this dwarf cichlids…a Bolivian ram. I bought a pair of these from a LFS and one was trouble from the start. Initially I thought that the aggression being shown was simply stress from being relocated to a new tank but this fish has been hellbent on going after numerous fish now in 2 different tanks.

I did my research on this species extensively and everything that I have read says it’s a peaceful cichlid. It’s been bullying everything too slow to avoid him as it cruises around. It has even been bullying keyhole cichlids almost three times its size. The other ram I bought with this one…no issues at all. I can’t tell the gender on either but I’m pretty sure this is a male.

Has anyone else had this issue with Bolivian rams?

Single peacock cichlid in 20 gal long?

Hi guys, my daughter really loves the look of the blue tang fish. A saltwater tank is way out of my experience range, but I’ve seen some blue and yellow colored peacock cichlids that would be a good compromise.

I have a cycled 20 gal long that’s ready to go. Would this be too small for a single peacock cichlid? Any other recommendations for a similarly colored fish that would be a good fit absolutely welcome! Thank you!

does anyone know what type of cichlid this is?

I got some kenyi and yellow lab juveniles. Three of the “kenyi” look like this guy and I’m wondering if they just haven’t colored up or if they’re a different type of mbuna, although it may not be possible to tell yet.

Just added Damocles to his temporary tank!!

From a Tupperware container to,a quarantine tank, into his wet pet tank! How did i do? Im a noob at cichlids so go easy but be honest, what can I change? How can I improve my Damocles' life? He is a convict cichlid that was rescued from a set of oscars and spent four days in a Tupperware container with nothing but a bubbler before I got him and I want to make sure im doing everything right. Now I say this is his temporary tank because I have plans in the future to have a CA Cichlid tank that is at LEAST 75 gallons so he can have some friends 😁

My old Jaguar, Manny

Had him from about 3" to just over a foot long but I didn't have the tank for him to grow to adulthood.

He lived in a 4ft x 2ft x 18" and I sold him to live alone in an 8'x2'x2' where he is living currently.

His name was Manny, the Managuensis!

I just got Oscar’s and I know they’re really aggressive. Does anyone know fish I could have with Oscar’s if any.

Keyhole cichlid with dither fish in a 30gallon enough or to small?

Is a 30gallon tank enough to keep a pair of keyhole cichlids with a group of dither fish (probably a species of tetra for a South American style tank) and maybe a bristlenose pleco (this one comes from another tank where he is the less dominant male) but the bristlenose isn’t a must for me if it makes the tank to cramped I wil not add them

In your opinions can the freshwater angelfish and the electric blue acara be safely kept together?

Nannacara Anomala Pair

I recently got a m/f pair of nannacara anomala. The first few days in the tank they were fine, but recently the female has started acting aggressively towards the male. The male is still a juvenile and I don't think they spawned, but the female has started displaying some dark coloration. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Is she evil?

Or maybe he...
I bought this sweet looking thing after reading that it would be fine with my feisty electric blue acara. I'm currently quarantining in a 35 gallon square for a 75 gallon I have cycling. My electric blue acaras are being chased constantly. There's two of them against him/her. Maybe I should have gotten a blood red parrot instead... I don't know if I should rehome her or if it's just tank size. I have two small pots. Rock cave. Driftwood. Lots of places to hide and she just seeks them out and chases.

How to add more fish?

I have a 55 gallon with one peacock cichlid (I believe a male) in right now. How should I go about introducing more later on without any conflicts? I imagine rearranging the tank to dissolve territory but anything else?

Can Apistogramma cacatuoides golf there own with eba

I have a 4foot tank with electric blue acara and I was wondering if I can add some Apistogramma cacatuoides as a second cichlid or wil the electric blue acara just bulldoze over them. My acara are really peaceful behavior wise there closer to keyhole cichlids than eba and they dont retaliate against aggressive fish (they where with polar blue parrots who kept harassing them and they always backed up)
