‘12 LR4 Timing Chain

I’m pretty interested in this LR4. Only two owners, has 141k miles and has only been serviced by Land Rover mechanics. No accidents, clean title. They even added CarPlay. They’re asking $6k and I want to pull the trigger!

I’m worried about one thing. The timing chain. I know this is a notorious issue and I’ve even asked the owner about it. They said it hadn’t been changed because he didn’t have any issues with it.

Curious of other opinions here. With a clean bill of previous routine maintenances, would you be worried about the potential failure? I just don’t want to drive the car 5k miles and then I have to dump money for that fix.

Any and all thoughts would be helpful!

‘06 LR3 Question

I’m mildly interested in this LR3 I found on FB marketplace. It’s listed for a decent price and I have seen it in person.

The seller provided me with all of the maintenance records to date. I’ve also seen the carfax and everything is accounted for. He is the second owner for context.

In reading and scrubbing the most recent maintenance reports, he has declined a few things in recent years. He’s been super transparent. See below:

Item
Status

Front diff pinion seal leaking (oil seeping)

Declined twice (5/2024 and again 1/2026 — still leaking)

Front tie rods (freeplay)

Declined (1/2026)

Front lower control arm bushings

Declined (1/2026)

Front tires (worn unevenly, inner edge)

Declined

Front brake pads at 4mm

Noted "will need soon," not quoted

Left front side marker bulb

Declined

Squeaking belt noise

Mentioned, follow-up not documented

I’d love to hear thoughts on the issues listed and if I should run away or these issues are manageable and normal for the year of the car?

‘03 LX 470 Purchase Question

I’m in the market for the LX 470 and I’m going to see it in person soon. It has 260k miles on it.

The inside looks clean and I’ve been told it’s in mechanically good shape. My questions are for the undercarriage of the car. I asked the seller for more pics and with the angles, that I was given, it looks like there are spots on the undercarriage look “odd” to me. Maybe I’m seeing things incorrectly.

I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this. Thanks in advance!

2002 P38 Question

I found a 2002 P38 that I’m mildly interested in. Listing says it “runs hot after driving a few miles.” Car has 150k miles on it. For context, this car would be a beater or just another car to have for my family.

I asked the seller why it’s overheating and he said that it’s “leaking freeze on the engine”

I’m no Land Rover expert and I’ve yet to see this in person or had a chance to actually look at anything on the car. Curious if anyone has any specific knowledge on this issue. If it is true, do you guys think there are other potential issues that can compound from this?
