Experiment: The Hikers' Dose at Lake Tahoe
I've been experimenting with lower dosages. A hiker's dose is designed to keep you aware enough to follow trails and enhance experiences with nature. It's double a museum dose.
I took them at a very pleasant creek at the end of a long meadow. Everything had a glow to it. Colors were well defined and bright. I saw a young coyote trying to get water from the creek. I found a garter snake. Fish and birds. Dozens of flower species were still in bloom. Found a swimming hole and dived in. This dose is really good for connecting with nature. Interacting with other people at camp wasn't a problem at all 2 hours after the peak.
After dinner, I finally started to settle when a bear approached my camp. Cars were telling me it was right in front of me. I couldn't see it. The black bears in Tahoe are brown and blend right into the ground. By the time I noticed it, the monster was right there. It went off in the opposite direction. Then it turned around and looked right at me. I saw two massive glowing eyes. Majestic experience.
Amazing trip. Taking the lower dose kept me aware. The experience left me feeling closer to nature. Seeing a young coyote is very rare. And the bear was a crazy experience.
