Gamine PSA - Try your tops/dresses on backwards (especially if you haven't been able to make them work yet)

So I've had a couple of items in my closet that I've never quite been able to style right until literally yesterday... when I put on my beige crochet scoop neck T-shirt backwards by accident 😂 And it looked great! So much so that I didn't notice and was lowkey puzzled as to why (I was wearing a bright regular length tank and neutral cropped track pants underneath, it wasn't particularly thought out).

The issue is had with the crochet T was that the sleeve length was almost to the elbow crease (not short enough to be staccato), the neck was scooped (not high enough to be staccato), the length was somewhere between cropped and regular AND it was boxy, so no waist definition (I'm a Soft Gamine, sometimes I can do a Soft Natural leaning fit) 🫠 I'm not always looking for the most flattering outfit, but I do seek balance and proportion. I could layer a lot of add a lot of jewellery, but I live in hot, humid Mumbai, and jewellery sometimes overstimulates me.

As someone determined to make everything work for me because why tf would I not, I've held on top a couple articles of clothing that I could never quite enjoy on myself, but love on their own. To make things even more challenging, I now have wavy hair cut in a shag that's grown past my shoulders, and cannot rely on a bob or pixie to Give Me the Staccato Line.

Enter the backwards option. Instantly, a jewel neckline that shifts all the proportions with one staccato line. That plus exposed ankle and/or wrist (which I usually have) did the trick so well that I am currently wearing a knee-length caftan dress that has challenged me for two years. Backwards. 😂 And I LOVE it. The only ways I'd figured out how to wear it before was with higher neck tanks or long sleeved button ups underneath, or with my hair worn up.

It may not work for everything, but when it does, it DOES. So if you've seen content about doing this and thought it was silly, or have something lying around that never quite looked right, this is your sign to try it! ✨

My tried and tested method for root volume (for any hair type/drying method)

It's a root clip. That's it 😂

To elaborate, it's this type of root clip: https://amzn.in/d/0jbwqiVx

The method is simple, the prongs of the comb open sideways, you wiggle them into the front section of your hair at the roots, and release. I personally do this while air drying to cut down on dry time, or after diffusing to 80% dry sometimes (my waves stay defined and don't stretch out as much this way). To take it out, unlock the prongs and gently wiggle and pull the comb out (I do this once my hair is totally dry).

Edit: because it seemed unclear, this is something I do after washing my hair, while it's damp and air drying, with or without some diffusing. So it's a heatless tool to set your damp hair, basically, like a roller. Here's a short video of how it's used: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/aTNJYQ29igQ

It's a surprisingly large upgrade from using something like a claw clip. Same results every time, super comfortable. I have 2B-ish, medium porosity hair that's around shoulder length when defined (and a few inches longer when stretched). I especially like that this method gets my wavy bangs/face framing bits nice and lifted without any fuss.

The smaller version works well enough if you want to do a side part or something, but I personally like the large comb. I've been using these for over a year (different listing that's not unavailable, same product), and they're easy to clean, have held up great, and have been invaluable in keeping things low maintenance as my hair grows longer. Highly recommend!

PSA: Hack to fix loose lipstick lids that come off in your bag

So this very specific problem is something I have with the Swiss Beauty Pure Lustre lipsticks, but it's happened to me with other products as well (one of which went rancid due to the air exposure, I suspect). It's a great formula, with cute packaging, and I love the two shades I own for moisturising everyday wear and reapplying - only I couldn't carry them around 🥲 What is the point of a balmy product you can't carry aroundddd.

Enter this AI-generated Google answer:

Clear Nail Polish (The Friction Hack): Paint a thin layer of clear nail polish along the inside rim of the lid. Let it dry completely. The slight added thickness creates a snug, grippy seal that prevents slipping.

Now I can't find a source for this online (the linked one leads to some thermoplastic product) but figured I have nothing to lose.

And voila! Worked great for both lipstick! 😆🙏🏽 Makes a nice, tight seal that's not too difficult to open but definitely won't come off in a bag.

Attached is a picture of the lid with the nailpolish applied, but it's barely visible even IRL. Probably wouldn't recommend the product because it's a real packaging issue but happy to pass on a successful hack.
