Why are my curls so stringy instead of forming bigger curl clumps?

I have 2C–3A curls with medium porosity, but instead of forming bigger curl clumps, my hair separates into lots of tiny, thin strands, making it look frizzy in most areas.

Current routine:

  • Shampoo + conditioner 2–3x/week
  • Fix My Curls Leave-In Cream + Defining Hair Gel after wash
  • On refresh days, I wet my hair with a spray bottle, reapply a little leave-in (sometimes gel), and scrunch.

I'm attaching close-up photos. Is this just my natural curl pattern, or is there something in my routine that's preventing larger curl clumps from forming?

I want luscious curls but my hair porosity never cooperates 😭😭 my

I have 2c-3a low porosity hair.. been doing cgm for three years now

I started doing cgm and very quickly found things that suited me
My previous routine was:
Love beauty and planet lavender shampoo and conditioner
L’Oréal dream lengths leave in conditioner
Love beauty and planet rice water and Angelica seed gel
Love beauty and planet lavender hair serum

With time LBP stopped suiting my hair and I had severe hairfall so I shifted to Reequil hairfall control shampoo which I use to this day.
My biggest problem is that L’Oréal dream lengths discontinued in India like every other good line of product!!! 😭😭😭 and I haven’t done cgm in a month or so because I have very little product left and I want to save it for occasions only

But I also want a good leave in that doesn’t weigh my hair down and also defines them

Also, my hair HATES Fix my curls and arata
I just want a product that defines my curls while moisturising them and also provides a good hold without weighing them down 🥲🥲

I wanted to get a curl cream but I read that curl cream weighs low porosity hair down so Idk I was gonna buy the cantu curl activator cream but I read that it’s not suitable for low porosity

I don’t trust moxie or manetain or sugarboo for a good hold

My options are.. milkshake or redken but they’re expensive so I wanna be rly sure before ordering!

Current routine:
Reequil hairfall control shampoo
Reequil babassu conditioner
No leave in 💔
Curl ultra defining gel
Matrix hair serum

If anyone has the same experience pls pls pls help!!

Best Products I have Ever Used. [Hair Type -3A]

I’ve been using the entire Curl Expression range, and I’m genuinely impressed. It keeps my curls well defined, soft, and bouncy without making them feel heavy.
My curls look healthier and are much easier to manage. Definitely worth it!
This is the L'Oréal Professionnel range

2B - 2C hair help.

Long time lurker , first time poster here . I think my hair falls in the 2B ish category( not sure tho) and I used the moxie leave in and the set wet yellow gel for this wash day . I wasn't able to let my hair completely dry tho since I was getting late and I had somewhere to be so they kinda looks frizzy? I digress. I just wanted some opinions and advices lmao 😭🙏

READ THIS BEFORE POSTING HERE 😛🙏🏼🍇

If your Reddit account is marked as NSFW or is actively participating in porn or other NSFW subreddits, your posts and comments will not get posted here. They will be automatically removed by Hive Protect (Reddit's moderation bot), and your account will receive shadowban or permanent ban from this community.

Why do we have this rule?

If a large number of NSFW accounts participate in an SFW subreddit, Reddit mark that subreddit as NSFW. This significantly limits the community's visibility and features, including reduced discoverability in search and feeds, loss of organic reach, and restrictions such as video posting. It can also cause SFW users who participate here to have their own profiles marked as NSFW.

To maintain this subreddit SFW status, we will not allow participation from NSFW accounts. (This whole process is automatic)

Also, a large majority of inappropriate and creepy comments we remove come from NSFW accounts. This rule will reduce that behavior and keeps the community more comfortable for everyone.

Megathread - Hair Type

This thread is for anyone looking to figure out their hair type. Simply share a picture, and the community will assist you!

Please keep in mind that a single person can have more than one hair type at the same time. For example, your hair might fall within a range like 2B to 3A, meaning it can include a mix of 2B, 2C, and 3A waves or curls.

Hair type- 2c/3a(low porosity) got a curly hair cut

I got a curly haircut for the first time and i dont know how to feel tbh. He diffused my hair but not too well and scrunched it as well. Heres the before and after, a bit sad that i lost so much length but relieved as well :)

Alsoo i lost it when he finger coiled my front strands hehee

My routine isnt too complicated, i just washed my hair with a normal shampoo, then got my hair cut applied heat protectant and then hover diffused scrunched and appled a bit of coconut oil after it dried

2c wavy is the worst type to have (low porosity)

  1. when im washing my hair its convenient to backcomb and apply product but then again i have to front comb cause if it dried backcombed itll end up looking weird 😭😭😭

  2. I used moxie shampoo conditioner and sometime ashba leave in or fmc leave but the moment my hairs out of the shower i can see small frizz forming IT IS SO ANNOYING AAAAAAA

  3. plopping up w a tshirt doesnt help for the problem mentioned in 1. hate how hair near your top look so weird and disheveled when curled i prefer having a flat top and then curls

  4. THE HAIR FALL I CANT I DONT LIKE TO SEE SO MUCH HAIRFALL WHEN IM COMBING IN THE SHOWER IT KILLS A PART OF ME😭😭😭 my top scalp is starting to show lesser concentration of hair but thankfully the FRIZZ hides it

  5. flyaways i cant apply that flyaway gel everyday man it might cause more hairfall

  6. i feel cgm was created by shampoo companies and its a scam cause i haven’t spent a single day without frizz

  7. also i have a theory cgm is great for short hair but for long hair it vvv difficult especially when you’re a student you can spend a lot of time in shower

some advice would really help a fellow curly in distress

Need some advice! New to styling my natural waves/curls 😊

Hi everyone!

I've always thought I just had frizzy, slightly wavy hair (around 1C–2A), so I finally decided to try a proper wavy/curly routine. These photos are from my second time using the Moxie Curl Cream + Flexi Styling Serum Gel, and I'm honestly surprised by how much definition I got!

This is the wash day hair fully dried.

I'm still trying to figure out my hair pattern. Would you consider this 2B, 2C, or something else?

A little about my hair:

Low porosity

Coarse strands

Medium to low density (not super thick)

Blunt cut with grown-out curtain bangs

These results are 100% air-dried—I prefer not to use heat or diffuse.

One thing I noticed is:

My first styling attempt had less frizz but much less volume.

This second attempt has way better volume (which I love!), but it's also much frizzier.

My biggest goal is to keep this volume while reducing the frizz as much as possible.

Since my hair isn't very dense, I'm hesitant to get layers because I'm worried they'll make it look thinner. Has anyone with similar hair found a good balance?

I'd really appreciate any advice on:

What hair pattern do you think I have?

How can I reduce frizz without losing volume?

Any product or styling tips for low-porosity, coarse hair?

Thanks! ❤️

Hair type- 3c Looking for a thick conditioner & shampoo available in India for 3C curls!

I have 3C curly hair that’s extremely tangle-prone, so I need a conditioner that’s really thick and gives a lot of slip for detangling.
I’ve been using the Plum Coconut Milk shampoo and conditioner for quite a while now. I actually love how thick the conditioner is and how easily it helps me detangle my hair, but I’ve been using it for so long that I want to try something new.
Can you recommend a shampoo and especially a thick conditioner that’s available in India? I’m looking for something that:
Is very thick and creamy
Has amazing slip for detangling
Makes hair feel super soft and moisturized
Works well for 3C curls without weighing them down too much
I’m open to any brands that are easily available in India (online or in stores). Would love to know your favourites!

Anyone with 3A curly hair experiencing excessive hair fall lately? Is it seasonal?

I'm from Delhi and have 3A curly hair. For the past 2–3 months, I've been experiencing a lot more hair fall than usual. Every wash day and detangling session feels like I'm’m losing way more hair than I normally do.

I'm wondering if anyone else in Delhi, especially those with 3A curls, is dealing with the same thing. Could it be seasonal because of the heat, humidity, or weather changes, or is it more likely to be caused by stress, a vitamin deficiency, or something else?

If you've experienced this recently, what helped? Did you get any blood tests done or see a dermatologist? I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences and any advice.

Wavy Hair Journey and a tad bit of success (last 2 pictures) 2a-2b hair type, low porosity

I never thought my hair would turn out wavy lol. I started researching a lot about hair care in September 2025, and got a hint that I might have wavy hair in October 2025 (after spending tonnes of money on anti-frizz and smoothening products).

Searched up reddit, commented on r/wavyhair, got banned coz apparently the last 2 pictures of this thread aren’t wavy. I was confused asf, posted on r/curlyhair, and redditors there backed that I did not have wavy hair and when I shared a picture of my long hair to confirm, I was told that it’s coz I tied up my hair when it was damp.

Why am I sharing all this? Not to prove a point, but to share that if you gotta ask “do I have wavy/curly hair”- you most probably do and give the routine a go!

I’m still experimenting and have a lot of room to improve, but just wanted to let it out here.

I genuinely gave up on my waves after that sub told me I had straight hair, but picked it up again in may 2026 (5th picture). I used loreal hyaluron purifying shampoo and conditioner, and arata curl cream and gel (really shitty products ngl)

For pics 3 and 4, I used moxie hydrorepair shampoo and conditioner (it's reallyyy hydrating, love both the products). And I also used fix my curls’ gel and leave in conditioner (protein styling duo). And at last, used curl up's mousse and air-dried.

The first 2 pictures are from yesterday where I used the same styling products, but experimented with quantities, and used a wide toothed comb after leave in. Also, I only used the loreal shampoo again, and skipped the conditioner.

At night- satin bonnet and pineapple!

I’m open to suggestions because on day-2 I had a lot of frizz and I go to gym 4-5x a week and idk how to handle/tie styled hair😭 I’m afraid of ruining or “denting” it.

Help me find products for my frizzy dry 2a wavy hair

So I always had dry frizzy wavy hair , tried to fix them with conditioner and hair mask but it didn't work.

Also I'm confused if they're 2a or 2b

Suggest me a good clarifying shampoo, a hydrating shampoo, an anti dandruff shampoo

Conditioner

Hair mask

And leave in Cream/conditioner/gel/mousse whatever since I'm not much as aware about these

1 pic is this curl I get every morning or some time after combing my hair. I never got this type of curl some years ago

3 pic is my hair after hair wash

4 pic is my hair after combing
