Does scoring 99.8% in Class 10 guarantee success in JEE? Phele body padh lena phir gaali dena baar baar post krne ke liye

My cousin scored 99.8% in Class 10 and was among the national-level toppers. He is now choosing PCM with a dummy school and online coaching.

He is very confident, perhaps a little overconfident, and feels that because he performed exceptionally well in board exams, JEE will follow a similar pattern. At the moment, he does not seem to be taking preparation very seriously, so he is asking whether that confidence is actually justified.

I am not trying to discourage him; I am genuinely concerned. He wants to understand the reality more clearly.

So he wanted to ask:

Have you seen cases where someone scored around 99.5–99.8% in Class 10 but did not perform well in JEE? Or did most of them eventually make it to top colleges?

Please share real experiences—both successes and setbacks—so he can get a clearer perspective.

No negativity intended, just trying to understand how things usually work.
