Why Verstappen's crash only prompted single yellows initially

The crash initially triggered an immediate local single yellow from the marshal at the post, alerting race control to the situation.

The automatic lap deletions mean significant competitive implications to double waved yellow flags, and there was a desire not to introduce them unnecessarily.

Based on the size of the run-off area, the lack of marshals attending to the car in that moment and the fact the car was not visibly damaged beyond restarting, race control elected to wait and see if Verstappen could get going again and return to the pits.

Only once it became clear that this would not happen, the status was upgraded to a double waved yellow flag.

Both Antonelli and Verstappen, as well as many outside observers, queried in the aftermath the decision not to immediately introduce double waved yellows to the scene.

F1 bans Ferrari-pioneered exhaust wings for 2027

following discussions with teams at a technical director level, amendments to the regulations were agreed upon that will outlaw any scope for exhaust wings for next season.

This has been achieved through a new exhaust exclusion zone, which outlaws any part of the car within a circular cylinder shape that is 20mm greater than the tailpipe and covers the area around the exhaust.

Furthermore, regulations that allow tailpipe supports to be fitted have been removed entirely from the 2027 rules.

Article C2.3.7 reads: "Except for tailpipe, no part of the car may lie within a right circular cylinder which intersects the planes XR = 385 and XDIF = 800, and whose axis is identical to, and diameter 20mm greater than, that of the right circular cylinder defined in C3.9.2(g)."

From Miami onwards rival teams, including Mercedes, found a different loophole to use an exhaust tailpipe bracket and have it act as a winglet, even if it's less powerful than Ferrari's baked-in solution. But that loophole now also appears closed after the FIA heavily revamped the relevant article in the regulations, C3.9, which places further restrictions on the placement and shape of the tailpipe and any adjacent bodywork.

Other 2027 clampdowns approved by the FIA WMSC include the position of the floor body stays and their interaction with the sidepod bodywork, and further restrictions on the suspension design and the behaviour of the dampers.

Monaco Grand Prix FIA Court of Appeal: What Happens Next

McLaren and Red Bull are taking the Monaco Grand Prix result to the FIA International Court of Appeal, and the process is now moving beyond the race-weekend stewards’ room. The issue started with Alpine’s successful right of review, which restored Pierre Gasly’s podium after a 77cm pit entry timing loop error meant the 60km/h pit lane speed limit had been measured incorrectly. Gasly’s penalties were removed because they had been added after the flag. Others, including Oscar Piastri and George Russell, had already served theirs during the race. That is where the fight now sits. Not over whether Gasly was speeding. Over whether the remedy created a new unfairness that the regulations cannot fix.

McLaren and Red Bull have taken the Monaco result to the FIA International Court of Appeal. Both are reported to have paid the €5,000 appeal fee and €20,000 deposit, with their written grounds understood to have been submitted

The ICA is independent of the FIA, composed of 36 judges elected at the FIA General Assembly. At least three will be assigned to this case

Grounds submitted within 15 days. FIA then has 15 days from receipt of those grounds to respond. A further 15-day minimum gap before any hearing. Timeline points to July

The court can confirm the revised outcome, alter the classification in some form, or waive the decision that rescinded Gasly’s penalties. Decision by simple majority

Mercedes filed a right of review for Russell’s penalties, then withdrew it before the June 20 hearing after the FIA signalled it would proactively address the regulatory failures Monaco exposed

The heart of it is simple: Piastri and others served identical penalties during the race and have no route back. Gasly didn’t serve his, so they could be removed. Paragraph 42 of Document 99 confirms the stewards had no power to fix that asymmetry

The future of max at Red Bull

Last week, before the GP of Barcelona, Max and his manager had a meeting at Red Bull's HQ. They met with Lauren Mekkies, Oliver Mintslaff, Red Bull heir Mark Mateschitz, and large shareholder Chalerm Yoovidhya. They discussed the future of Max on the team. Max's manager has confirmed that he indeed has an escape clause; they have until October to decide if Max stays till the end of his contract (2028) or leaves at the end of the current season. The problem is that if Max waits until then, the driver market has probably dried out or so Red Bull expresses. They offered Max a double-digit million-dollar bonus to scrape the clause out of the contract and shares in the sister team Racing Bulls. They want Max to decide at the latest by the time of the Hungarian GP.

Max's management has said that they intend to stay with Red Bull and let Max end his career at Red Bull; they have always been loyal, and they don't necessarily want to change that, but there has to be a clear prospect of winning.

Audi demands turbos as part of F1 V8 engine return

Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, in an event discussing the launch of Audi's new Nuvolari V8-turbo hybrid supercar, its CEO Gernot Dollner said that a move to normally aspirated engines is one his company is not eager for.

He said the key priority for Audi was having "a regulation that has energy efficiency in the focus", something a turbo offers more than a normally aspirated engine.

Asked if that meant keeping turbos, Doellner said: "That's definitely more important than talking about the number of cylinders.

"That's crystal-clear from an Audi perspective. We prefer turbo due to the efficiency aspect. More important than the number of cylinders."

Dollner hoped, as part of the discussions that will take place with the FIA, that the regulations can be framed in a way that continues to make F1 attractive for Audi.

The discussion is led by FIA and we are part of that discussion," he said. "Our focus is on the actual regulation and to optimise that, to optimise our drivetrain to the regulation we have. That's our main focus and the FIA will lead that discussion.

"From our perspective, we are talking about the year 2030 or 2031. The important [thing] for us is that we have cost-efficiency in mind. Of course, we just entered, we invested in a drivetrain concept and so we are not keen on changing soon."

But Dollner made it clear that, despite his resistance to shifting the regulations towards normally aspirated power units, this was not an issue that would automatically trigger Audi to walk away from F1.

Asked if this was a potential deal-breaker for Audi's involvement, he said: "No, not right now - as I think and believe and trust that we will have a good discussion regarding the regulations and we will definitely have sustainable fuels.

"[So] that's not a topic under discussion. It's more in some areas a philosophical question but let's see what the process brings."

Saw the final episode again this morning

From the final 2 episodes 2 things stood out for me and i wonder if you guys think it would have made less impact if it had done sooneer.

  1. Amy's make over. She changed her hair, glasses and clothing style. She even seemed different in personality. Would it have been different if they had done this sooner or not all?

  2. Sheldon's "epiphany". Amy confronted him with his behaviour, nothing new there, but she added that he broke his friends hearts and the only reason they are his friends is because, they know he usually doesn't know he's being "himself". And apparently this made an impression on him and he changes his speech completely and thanks all of his friends and calls them his family. Beautiful moment, full circle for his character growth. Was this the best moment for it?

It's 1996 and Schumacher just announced he's going to Ferrari, where Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger are. So at least one of them has to go. Flavio went voor both Ferrari drivers Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger even knowing they didnt get along. So would make the same choice as Flavio or a different one? And what about the 2nd ferrari, who would you pick

F1 teams ready to shorten races to get 2027 changes agreed

Because there isn't an agreement on the changes because of the rules (increased fuel flow) they are now looking at shortening some races by 1 or 2 laps and the reconisan lap also by 1 lap.
