Front under cover severely damaged - worth replacing?

Hi all

Yesterday I was driving my 2021 4S slowly over a rubber speed bump that I have driven over 100s of times before when I heard a loud crunch. I stopped and checked and found that a bolt holding a section of the speed bump down was sticking up by about an inch and it has cut a large gouge through the front under cover. Chassis was set to medium.

I assume that this part is not structural and is more for dust/water protection, aerodynamics and sound proofing but is it something that I should have replaced? I’m thinking of keeping the car for another year and don’t want this to be an issue when I come to sell it.

I’m sure it will cost a good amount if I wanted to get it replaced.

Thankfully, I’m fairly sure the main metal battery cover is not damaged.

Thanks

Faulty speed bump damaged my car

Small UPDATE:

I went back there with a large spirit level and tape measure. The bolt is about 11mm above the height of the bump (but around 1 inch from where it should be) and it sits around 10.5cm above the road surface.

I’ve found where I can make a claim to the council but I’ll need 2 independent quotes which will take a while and, I assume, only pay for the cheapest.

Hi all

One of the roads local to me has rubber speed bumps that are bolted to the road. They are the ones in the middle of the road that you straddle with your wheels either side. They aren’t in a good state but I’ve driven over them hundreds of times without an issue.

When driving over one of them tonight, there was a loud crunch so I stopped and saw that one of the bolts that holds it to the road was sticking up by about an inch. I then checked under my car and the bolt has cut a large groove in the underfloor of the car. It’s a Porsche Taycan and I know that this is going to be very expensive to fix.

Does anyone have experience of getting the responsible council to pay for damage caused to cars by things like this?

Thanks

Faulty speed bump severely damaged my car

On a road in a local town (England) there are some rubber speed bumps that are bolted into the road. They are ones that you straddle with your wheels either side. They are fairly worse for wear. I’ve driven over them hundreds of times in this car without an issue.

This evening, when I drove over one of them, there was a load crunch so I stopped to check what had happened. One of the bolts holding the speed bump down was sticking up about an inch and has cut a large groove in the underfloor of my electric car (Porsche Taycan) from front to back. I know that this is going to be super-expensive to have fixed (thousands).

Has anyone had experience in getting the council responsible to pay for damage like this?

Thanks

Do you even care about the World Cup 3rd place playoff tonight?

Personally, I think it’s such a pointless match and I’d imagine the players really don’t want to play. Nobody even remembers the runners up let alone the team that came 3rd.

Surely it’s just about more money for FIFA.

They should just let them go home to enjoy the summer.

EDIT

Right, I take it all back. I was talking bollocks. I hadn’t planned to watch it but ended up glued to the telly. Brilliant match and the players definitely seemed up for it.

I still don’t think 3rd place means a great deal but it was great to see both England and France (at least in the 2nd half) going for it and putting on a brilliant match.

I’m a man who has to go to an outdoor black tie do tomorrow afternoon. How am I going to avoid heat stroke?

This is an event I can’t get out of and am dreading it. Just the thought of putting on, trousers, a shirt and jacket is making me sweat and the forecast for tomorrow is 35 degrees. Any tips for staying cool and not melting into a big sweaty puddle?

How bad is it that my neighbour is driving on a provisional licence on her own in the car? England

My neighbour who is probably in her late 40s is learning to drive and still has L plates on the car. Multiple times I’ve seen her driving off on her own, sometimes with her young kid in the car.

I mostly mind my own business but, on this one, I’m not sure whether I should just let it go or whether I should report her.

On the one hand, it’s none of business, but on the other hand, what if she hits someone. I’ve seen her trying to manoeuvre the car and she doesn’t seem entirely in control.

I don’t know her and her husband all that well so wouldn’t feel very comfortable just confronting her.

If I was to report her to the police would anything actually be done? I have no idea how seriously they would take it.

Is it appropropriate to participate in a work heritage day when you have a very questionable family history?

Hi all

First of all, this question is genuine so please be kind.

Each year my workplace hosts a heritage day where staff are encouraged to celebrate their heritage by bringing in related food, talking about their heritage or even dressing in traditional clothing. It's all about celebrating diversity and is generally viewed by most staff as a good thing - espcially as participation is entirely optional.

My heritage is a bit complicated - hence this question. My dad was born and raised in the Caribbean but as the white son of a white plantation owner. My mum is white and British. The family had been there since the 17th century and there is, clearly, a lot of very bad history involving slavery etc. Obviously that was a long time before he was born but it's clear that his privilege was built upon a lot of horror in the past.

I do have black relatives both in the UK and the Caribbean but the vast majority of that side of the family is white.

My question is whether it is appropriate for someone like me to participate in the heritage day based on this or whether it's best to just keep quiet. Part of my heritage is from there and the food, drink and music is part of it but I'm obviously aware of what a lot of it is built on. I'm obviously not proud of my distant heritage but also not really ashamed of the more recent heritage.

I'm erring on the side of keeping quiet but I'd really be interested in other's views.

Thanks

Hi all

I have a 2021 4S which I bought as a CPO just under 2 years ago.

The warranty is going to expire shortly and I'm considering what to do with the car. While I know that the battery warranty is longer, I am concerned about all of the other, extremely expensive, things that could do wrong.

I love the car but am not so bessoted with it that I'm happy to risk having to spend tens of thousands fixing something that goes wrong and, with Porsche, nothing is cheap to fix.

What would you do?
