Color guard!!

I’m looking for “retired” guard members who would like to get together and spin. We could write some work appropriate to our skill level. Or see what routines we remember from a million years ago. Or we could just put on some music and play and chat. Probably in the evening or a Sunday at a park that works for everyone. I have a few 6 foot poles and one 5 foot. A rifle and 2 beat sabers that I can share. If folks want to buy their own it is best to do it as a group. The shipping cost is reasonable the more poles there are. I’d prefer folks 18+ and for those that think they are too old.. I’m 54 and have spun folks in their late 60’s!! Message me, we will make it happen!!

Prejudice vs racist

Let’s start with a phrase I’ve heard a lot. Black people can’t be racist, they would be prejudiced. Racism is systemic. But white people can be both racist and prejudice.
I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this concept. I understand systemic racism, but I don’t understand how why races differ as individuals. Help please.

54 F new to Portland

Hey! I’m from Ohio but lived in Fla and TX for some time. I’m a cis straight white woman who is very LGBTQIA friendly. I’m a mom to adult children, nerdy, great with animals, liberal and happily married. I’d like to meet folks who would like to meet for lunch instead of a bar. Folks who might play DND or cozy video games or read Sfi/ Fantasy/ LITRPG. I have been described as the friend who will tell you the truth regardless simply because that is how my brain works. (Think Weezer, Dowager Countess of Grantham, Sophia but not as witty) I’m in NE Portland. Would prefer folks over 35. I feel like I’m writing a for sale ad for myself so I guess I’m done for now.

Really really really old school routines.

I’m 54 years old and just moved across the country. I started a “retired” guard group where I was and I did all the writing. I found a group in my new state that is an entire band, twirlers, dance and guard of “retired” members.
There are 3 issues I’m having with the new group. First the guard is made up of 1 person who is in his 70’s. There is zero doubt in my mind I could recruit more members but I have been waiting to see if this is a good fit for me. This gentleman is very nice and helpful. He has made it very clear he helped found this group and things will be done his way. (I called a move by a different name while learning and he went on a very polite tear. Didn’t ask him to use the term just said… slam, butterfly, tuck.) I’m having issues remembering his routines because he reuses the same moves in different orders over and over in very short routines. There is zero body work ZERO. He has a couple dozen routines recorded and on YouTube. I get he comes from a military style background and I want to honor that but my brain won’t hold on to the routines. I really want to ask him if we can change things up but I don’t want to offend color guard grandpa. (Term of endearment) We are practicing tomorrow and I don’t know what to do. I really want to be in this group and grow it but if I can’t remember a routine it is pointless. I also know I am far too blunt. (Neurodivergent in the 80’s was an odd thing.). Input please.

Weighting a 5 ft pole

I’m going to have to use a 5ft pole for a group I’m joining and going back to a 5 ft pole is proving challenging. Does weighting them help? What is the common weights used? Thank you!

Best pizza crust?

My family will move into our new home in 3 weeks. I am a very picky eater. Where can I get a pizza with a thicker tasty crust. Not Sicilian think but more than a piece of cardboard with toppings. Thank you soon to be neighbors!!
