Looking for brotherly advice.

I'm 18, and it's been a little over a year since I lost my mother to a brain tumor that re-emerged 10 years later.

She was my everything, and I mean everything, my whole world. I currently live with my father and big brother. I have never been emotionally close with my father; and my brother hasn't reached resolution in his own grief, so he can't really guide me to overcome mine.

I suppose pain grows you in a way nothing else can. When I talk to my friends about my grief, all they can do is offer sympathy, but they can never reach empathy, as none of them have lived through something like this -- they're still children :(

Amidst all this, I survived my first year of uni in electrical engineering, which wasn't very fulfilling. Left me consufed about what I want to do as my career. So basically I'm left confused in literally every aspect of life.

Don't worry, I will talk about these to a therapist in the near future (hopefully) but until then, I'm looking for your brotherly advice :)

Looking for brotherly advice on grief. An open letter to DH&J

TW: Death, loss, grief; all that jazz.

Dear Nerdfighteria,

I don't know if Dear Hank and John has a bummer episode planned soon, so it felt right to ask this question here too. I feel like this is one of the few communities on the internet that is mature enough for this kind of topic. You don't have to reply; but if you've got a piece of mind, I'd be more than willing to hear it.

Let's get to the chase. I'm 18, and it's been a little over a year since I lost my mother to a re-emerging brain tumor. She was my everything, and I mean everything, my whole world. John, but not quite there,

My theory on why Lovejoy will never release an acoustic Pebble Brain EP:

Because then, they would have to record Oh Yeah You're Gonna Cry!

I'm sorry to all the OYYGC truthers out there...

Ugh I know we're 14 years since TFIOS released but something occured to me

It's 3 am right now, and somehow TFIOS came into my mind. I'm a relatively fresh blood nerdfighter, almost 2 or 3 years, and it's been a year since I got the chance to buy and read TFIOS. So bare with me for a moment, go back to 2012 and live this revelation again with me. I know I'm 14 years late, but all I'm asking from you is sincerity in the comments.

Enough yapping, here it is: The way Gus and Hazel continually say "OK" to each other has a second meaning (other than the "maybe ok will be our always), and that is "we'll be ok". They know their time is limited (theyre cancer patients for god's sake), but they assure each other that whatever happens, they'll be ok. At least eventually.

idk how this never occurred to me, and even if it's not intended, but I love this subtlety. Even if it's not really intended, I believe art gets it's meaning from equal parts author's intent, and reader's interpretation.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk and bearing with me. DFTBA

An Open Letter: Which Smurfs are Lovejoy?

This is an open letter to the Lovejoy boys, though I know it's unlikely they will see it. So I'm asking you guys, the Lovenjoyers!

If Lovejoy were The Smurfs, which ones do you they would be? Other than the obvious musician smurf, of course.

I feel like Mark would be papa smurf, Ash would be smurfette (sorry lol), Will would be poet or brainy (maybe vanity?), and Joe can be handy smurf!

This is the single most question I want to ask the Lovejoy boys, so, spread the word!

What do you guys think the one simple trick is?

As Lovejoy wanted us to interpret the lyrics (the OST Tour intro), I've interpreted and understood most lyrics, but I still can't place the title, One Simple Trick, into anywhere in the puzzle. What do you guys think it means in the whole of the album, what is it referring to? Sure it's the meme with "doctors hate this one simple trick!....) but there's gotta be a deeper meaning!

Or is it just a funny wordplay that goes well with Second To (N)One

Anyone remember the original plan for Lovejoy's debut album?

I'm talking way back here -- 2021. ah, those were the days.

the boys had planned 3 EPs to be released consecutively in the span of a year, all connecting to each other and telling one story

but then they wanted to take more time polishing their sound and we had to wait a whole year and a half for wubio 😭

but again, it was just a faint idea. it would've been cool to see tho.

How do I introduce Esther Day to my friends?

It's Esther Day! I've been a nerdfighter for a few years now, and every Esther Day I feel some sort of guilt. I want to celebrate the love of my friends, I just don't know how I can introduce the day to them without it feeling weird! I know the whole point of Esther Day is to overcome this weirdness, normalise the words "I love you" in a platonic way, but every year I have no idea what to say to my friends.

Do I say start with "There's an author I really like that celebrates this day..." or "Have you ever heard of the Green brothers? You must have heard of the Green brothers!.." or just say "I love you"?

I've tried to come up something the last few years, but ultimately, I just shy down and end up not doing anything, so I feel a bit guilty. Like I'm supposed to tell them, and that it shouldn't be that big of a deal to say the three words "I love you" to people I deeply care about!

I'm a bit of an overthinker as you might have guessed, but what are you gonna do, it's an ancient defense mechanism :)

Pet peeve: Alphabet's song structure is not ABC! Am I missing something?

Let's say the verses are A, the "wanna be my cellmate" is B, and the chorus is C. Also, let's say the bridge is D, but it's not so important.

Then, the progression goes ABACABCDC. Not a magical ABCABC etc.

Most other Lovejoy songs go ABCABC, but they don't get named Alphabet? Why am I bothered this much by this :(

How to format a Dear Hank and John email?

Dear Nerdfighteria,

I've been an avid fan of DHJ for a while now, and I want to send in my own questions. I'm just wondering, is there a certain format they require, or do I just send them to hankandjohn@gmail.com?

I've sent a few questions but haven't been picked yet, but maybe it's becuase I'm just not funny enough :)

DFTBA,

Vic.

When are the fics where Peter Van Houten ties Hazel into the railtracks and Augustus saves him coming out?

And then they all get guns

For context, listen to the latest Dear Hank and John :))

I was rewatching Edge of the World, and I noticed that in the titan hunters' room Luz picks up a sword that has a titan's eye! It's the same eye that is on the portal door. Could it be an actual titan eye, or maybe just decoration?
