How to realize that Im right when I realize I’m in a dream.

I’m having a problem where my dream self realizes I’m in a dream but I don’t get lucid. My last dream I wasn’t lucid but I was doing things like breaking stuff and messing with other people. I was doing all that with the reasoning that I was dreaming so none of it mattered. My friends in the dream asked me why I was doing that. I told them it’s a dream and they told me it wasn’t a dream. I believed them from there and the dream ended.

Almost entered my first lucid dream

So my technique was to lay completely flat and not move at all. To fall asleep I kept repeating “lucid” in my head while also counting up. I added the counting part because I tend to get sidetracked if I’m just repeating one thing mindlessly. After about a couple minutes the space behind my eyes started showing really detailed images and patterns. Then there was this statue face that looked dark blue and then it transitioned into a soccer broadcast. (I think it was soccer because I had been playing Rematch on my Xbox all day.) Then it just kept repeating different animations of the broadcast without ever transitioning to something else. After a couple minutes of watching that I had this really intense feeling that I was opening my eyes even though I wasn’t which caused me to squeeze my eyes shut. I think that broke the realism of what I was seeing because after that it faded away. I think I went asleep right after that.

Is this a good sign since I was still completely conscious? What can I do to actually enter a dream from where I was there?

AITA for avoiding my dad after he embarrassed me

To start off with some background, I was recently friend-zoned by a girl and have been trying to get to back to a non-awkward friendship. So at a track meet my friend asked out a girl he’s been talking to. He came over to me after and we got slushies as a celebration since she said yes. We got back to where our team was sitting and ran into the girl who friend-zoned me, I’ll call her Lauren which is not her real name. I congratulated her on doing well in her events and one of my other teammates asked my friend what his girlfriend looked like. This made Lauren also want to see and sparked up a conversation about it. My dad, who’s the coach of the team, is standing next to us and decided to jump into the conversation. He starts to poke fun at my friend about his past girlfriends, nothing too serious or offensive just little things. And then he says, “did you run out of girls in our town or did all of them say no?” He said that last part facing me and Lauren. Lauren let out an awkward “yeeeaaa” and avoided eye contact. I, caught off guard and suddenly feeling incredibly awkward, said I needed to use the bathroom and walked off. I haven’t talked to my dad since and I feel like I should be way more angry at him than I am. Am I the jerk here for not saying something about it? What should I do?
