Good Advice That's Now Bad

"You'll never get anywhere in life just sitting on the couch and watching TV all day." is advice I heard for most of my life. Nowadays there are people on YouTube and Patreon who watch and react to television shows and movies as a full-time career. It almost makes me think I was born at the wrong time. Is there any advice you received that's been totally shattered by changing times?

Constant glitches make for painful viewing

Trying to watch some of these cartoons but this channel is plagued by periods of constant skipping and freezing up. I'm watching with an over-the-air antenna and the signal strength is excellent so it must be a problem on their end. Anyone else having this problem?

Reaction videos and spoilers from fans

I get enjoyment from watching Star Trek reaction videos because seeing someone experience the show for the first time brings back that sense of joy and wonder I felt during my first watch of the franchise. Unfortunately, there are those fans out there who just can't refrain from posting comments containing spoilers and this seems to be an ongoing problem for many reaction channels.

One channel I regularly watch is BunnytailsREACTS. At the start of each episode, she posts the words: PLEASE DON'T SPOIL and reads aloud this disclaimer: "A quick reminder to not bring up any future episodes, plot points, characters, or guest actors so I can have a spoil free experience with Star Trek. And please don't tell me if something is good or bad before I watch it. Okay? Thankyou."

Many of us were looking forward to the start of her TNG season 3 videos but someone spoiled a pretty big surprise beforehand. Seriously, what is it with some people? You'd think with Star Trek's positive vision of humanity, the fans would be a little more mindful especially when the disclaimer is so thorough but there's always that one person who can't keep their mouth shut. I feel very sorry whenever a reactor has something spoiled for them or has their expectations lowered or raised before they even watch an episode or movie.

Capital One is moving my due date

I was just informed by Capital One that they are going to move my due date to the beginning of each month instead of near the end of the month like I had chosen. Anyone know why the are doing this?

I have all my card due dates exactly where I want them: Spread out over the whole month so I don't get hit with two bills at the same time. Seems pretty arrogant of Capital One to do this without even asking.

Family Medical Center (1988-1989)

The program was a strange one because it was shot as a drama but within the show's universe, camera people were supposed to be following the doctors and patients around but they were almost never seen. In one episode, a man threatened a doctor with a knife but the unseen cameraman put his camera down on the floor and then entered the frame to tackle the guy.

University Hospital (1995)

When this short-lived show first aired, the only thing I really remembered was the unique name of one of the actresses: Hudson Leick. I was pleasantly surprised to see her reappear on Xena: Warrior Princess as the memorable Callisto about a year later.

New Hires Making More Than Lifers?

I was talking to my co-worker friend who works in produce at a non-union store and he tells me because they have had a lot of trouble finding new hires, the company is now offering people right off the street about 3 dollars more in hourly pay than he makes after almost 30 years. Anyone else encounter this situation? So far, they are not adjusting his pay to match new hires.

Swore off Capital One but now I have no choice

A horror story from back in the day.

My mother had a Capital One credit card for many years but a few months after my dad passed away, someone tried to open an account under his name. Like she didn't have enough to deal with because she was still grieving. She spoke with someone in their overseas customer service department and because of a language barrier, she couldn't get her point across about my dad having passed away. She asked to speak with someone in America and they did transfer her to a very apologetic employee who took care of the problem. My mother then asked to cancel her card and said to the gentleman, "Instead of paying Alec Baldwin tons of money to do your commercials, you should hire Americans!"

I vowed never to do business with Capital One after that but now I have no choice. Cancelling my Discover It card would wreck my credit score. I sincerely hope Discover's U.S. based employees don't lose their jobs. They are really appreciated.

American Jury Duty

Just wondering if working the nightshift counts as a legitimate excuse to get out of jury duty? The summons explained that inconvenience is no excuse for not serving. Any of my fellow Americans on this sub ever have to deal with being called for jury duty?
