The setup is simple. A creator gathers a private group and hands out codes on one condition: jump to the Reddit post immediately, upvote it, and leave a comment. Meanwhile, they just dump a raw, unprotected list in the public sub.
The creator does not care if bots take those codes or if real people get them. In fact, when regular users arrive, find zero working codes, and get angry in the comments, it actually helps the author. The algorithm does not care if comments are complaints or praise. It just sees rapid activity and pushes the thread straight to the top.
Now look at developers who try to do things right. When you spend time and money setting up an anti-bot system so real users actually get a working code with a clean UX, your post gets buried. People grab a code, go install it, and the comment section stays quiet. To the platform, silence means nobody cares, so the post dies.
On top of that, many smaller indie devs cannot afford to build custom systems, and they do not want to use competitor sites that steal their traffic. Without fake comment hype, their honest drops are basically doomed to stay at the bottom.
I am definitely not asking anyone to go upvote or comment under my posts. It is just frustrating to see genuine effort and user care get punished by algorithms, while deliberate manipulation gets all the reach.
