TIFU I tried to save ~17 cents... and lost ~3.47 $ instead.
Today, I experienced one of the most absurd chains of bad luck I've had.
First, I decided to visit my friend at the restaurant where he works. He's almost impossible to meet irl because he's working 25/8, so I thought I'd surprise him.
Since it felt awkward to walk into a restaurant just to chat with someone from the kitchen, I decided to buy something. I thought, "I'll just get a small bottle of ayran. It can't cost much."
We talked for maybe 20 seconds, and then he told me I should leave because there was nothing for me to do there and no point in hanging around. I couldn't even take a quick photo with him to send to our group chat with our third friend as proof that I actually managed to find him. He refused and rushed back into the kitchen.
I totally understood him. I was just standing there like an idiot, distracting him while he was working.
At that point, I couldn't handle the awkwardness anymore. Even the cashier had this super serious expression and didn't smile once, which made me feel embarrassed and anxious.
So I went up to the counter to pay. I thought, "How much could a 0.2 L bottle of ayran possibly cost? Maybe 1.1 manats at most."
The cashier looked at me and said:
"2 manats." (1.1$)
I was completely caught off guard. I immediately reached for my wallet and handed him the 2 manats.
Well... seeing my friend was worth it, I guess. Maybe..
On my way back, I went into the metro to top up my transit card. I had some coins and wanted to use them, but my brain completely shut off. I somehow tried to insert a 10-qepik coin (0.06$) into the keyhole of the wrong machine.
Then, a police officer called out to me and asked, "What are you trying to do?"
I walked over and explained that I was trying to top up my metro card with coins, but one of the 10-qepik coins had gotten stuck in the machine because I had tried to put it into the wrong slot.
He replied rather bluntly, saying, "I already told you from over there that coins don't go in there. Why are you still trying?" Then he said, "You've got two minutes to get that coin out." I pulled out a pen and tried to fish it out, but after a couple of minutes, I gave up. The officer asked, "How much was the coin worth?"
I said, "10 qepiks."
He reached into his pocket, took out 20 qepiks, handed them to me, and said I could keep them. I thanked him and walked away.
Right after that, a kind woman offered to let me through the metro gates with her own card. I told her I already had money on mine, but she insisted.
So, at that moment, I was actually 70 (60 - payment for passage through the turnstile, and 10 from policeman) qepiks ahead thanks to two kind strangers. I got to my destination, checked my wallet...
... and realized my metro card was gone. I had left it on top of the red machine while dealing with the stuck coin. The card had 2.9 manats left on it, and buying a new one cost me another 3 manats. (1.7$)
So after trying to save 10 qepiks, I ended up losing 5.9 manats instead. (3.5$) I've had that metro card for almost three years and had never lost it before.
And just to make the day even better, I'm currently dealing with another problem: 218 manats (128 $) of my own money are stuck on a student bank card that the bank still hasn't managed to fix after 3 calls and 2 visits. Actually, it is the reason why i went outside
I was so angry and upset a couple of hours ago. But now i am almost fine. The worst part is that I'll never get that money back.
The painful part is that I'll never get that money back.
By the way, before going to the metro, after visiting the bank, I found a small grocery store with cheap prices and some unusual, inexpensive pastries.
The only problem is that, in the end, I spent even more money.
So all the happiness of finding that place suddenly became meaningless, because I ended up losing more money anyway.
Recently, my parents told me that I should spend less money (my summer vacation starts in a week, and I'll be going back to stay with them). I wanted to show them how frugal I could be.
But then... this happened.
TL;DR thought that i would't spent so much, met a friend, had fun, and show off to my parents how efficient could i be. But none of these happened
What the hell is that?
And it makes strange sounds like a toy when reversing
Every country got a pair
