Best way to study for comprehension only as an absolute beginner?

I’m an older, life-long language enthusiast. I want to study Korean as an absolute beginner, but I am only wanting to learn written and spoken comprehension and also how to communicate in writing. I am not interested in learning to speak the language. I asked AI how I could do this, and I got an answer that my first step should be to learn Hangul and should never use English transliterations from day one. Do you agree? If not, how would you structure study for this purpose? What are some of the best resources for learning Hangul?

I need some tips for aging and storing kimchi

I’m exploring making Korean food and have access to a mom and pop style Korean food bar / market that makes traditional kimchi. I understand that I should use aged / sour kimchi when cooking certain foods like kimchi jjigae, stir fries, etc.

Firstly, when I buy the kimchi freshly made, how long should I age it for cooking purposes. Secondly, it comes in a plastic container and no matter how I try to seal it, by a couple of weeks my fridge gets a heavy kimchi smell that starts to fill the kitchen when I open the fridge door. I’ve purchased but not yet set up a small fridge for my closed garage. Is there a way to keep that space from getting permeated with the kimchi smell?

Individual Thanksgiving dinner plate pick-up or delivery services?

Does anyone know if there are any catering companies or food prep services doing either a delivery or pick-up service for individual Thanksgiving dinners this year? I don't feel like doing up a whole traditional dinner this year, and sometimes in years past there have been places that do up a traditional plate. This would be a small order, just three of us.

Overpaid former employee by $45,000 with no recovery

I was re-hired at a company to manage the payroll, which was a job I previously had there. The company had gotten disorganized in my absence. They did not have a good system to track former employees who had received severance in the form of salary continuance. About 5 months after I started, in what was admittedly a bit unclear circumstances who was really responsible for everything, I discovered that a salary continuance to a former employee had never been turned off in the payroll system when it was supposed to expire. The former employee had received around $45,000 in severance overpayment. I did let my manager know about it and also reached out to the former employee, who agreed it had been an overpayment. With everything that was going on in the company at that time, it somehow never went farther than that. That was several years ago and we now have new ownership , so I am likely the only one who still even knows that this happened and that the payment was never recovered.

72 hours post IPOM Plus for 3 ventral hernias

Posting my experience as I couldn’t find anything about an IPOM (Intraperitoneal Onlay Mesh) Plus procedure specifically by name when I searched before my surgery. Maybe it’ll help someone else out.

I’m 72 hours out from a hybrid IPOM Plus to repair three ventral hernias which the surgeon suspects came from previous two laparoscopic surgeries. The surgery was 2.5 hours under general anesthesia and included both open and laparoscopic components. It was open repair of the hernias and then a laparoscopic onlay of a large mesh over the whole area. This morning when removing the bandages to shower, I see seven different incisions, none of them that large except a bit larger one by my belly button.

Surgery went smoothly and although I have a history of motion sickness, like with previous laparoscopic abdominal surgeries, I awoke smoothly and was alert with no nausea. My pain was probably around a 6 to 7, which was quickly brought down with hydromorphone.

I went home about an hour later with a Tylenol 3 prescription for breakthrough pain and alternating extra-strength Tylenol and extra-strength Ibuprofen as the main plan. Based on past surgeries I went right for the T3 + Ibuprofen combo for the first 36 hours.

This is definitely the “sorest” surgery I’ve ever had, but it never got close to what some here have described in terms of pain. I would say at home I topped out at 6 at most, and that was for short periods of time, which a fresh dose of pain meds dealt with. The most difficult period was 24 to 36 hours. Around 48 hours things got better rapidly. While I’m still sore at 72 hours, I have, at most, mild discomfort when sitting reclined and have very manageable soreness when getting up, moving around, etc. Thankfully, I’ve had almost no shoulder pain from the laparoscopic gas. It was only for about two days and then only if I breathed deeply that I started to feel the ache in my right shoulder.

All in all, while not pleasant, it has been a far better and easier recovery than I had braced myself for. I have been spared any muscle spasms or sharp, unrelenting pain. I have little to no pulling sensation in my abdomen although if I move or bed certain ways, the more is an immediate stinging pain which I think is the muscles pulling on the tacks or sutures holding the mesh in place.

Anyway, if anyone is reading this because they are going to have an IPOM Plus procedure, if your experience is like mine, you’ll sail right on through, at least the first 72 hours.
