Difficulty Balance Check

Was curious if the game has had any recent improvements to difficulty balancing. When I tried it in January the game became extremely easy half way through Act 1 and I got bored. Has that been fixed?

If not, what are some fun build ideas for being OP? Id like to continue the game because world and story seem great.

Challenging AND Emotionally Impactful Games?

For some reason it feels like people either make great emotionally-impactful story focused games with easy combat or challenging combat games with weak or minimal stories.

Im looking to find games that have both but which meet this set of criteria - I know this is very subjective so Im trying to outline my criteria:

Combat Criteria

  • Combat is challenging and remains challenging throughout the game >>for an average or slightly above average player<< - meaning you dont level up to the point where it trivializes the game. Another way to put it is player skill based not attribute/gear/build dependent.
    • It does NOT have to be a souls level of challenge. That is fine but its ok if its just a regular combat game that provides a consistent challenge.
  • Can be any type of combat or game melee/ranged, first person/third/isometric/side-scroller, can be souls like, action, button mashing etc just has to be challenging and maintain that challenge through the game.

Story Criteria

  • Has an emotionally impactful story. Thats the most important.
  • Doesnt matter how the story is told as long as it impacts the player in a deep emotional way. I would argue that the souls type of storytelling through lore doesnt hit that way but I could be wrong and it might just be my bias.
  • Ideally the story involves interesting characters and character arcs.
  • Does not have to include player choices that affect the story - thats nice but not necessary.

Examples:

Off the top of my head Im thinking games like God of War or Kingdom Come Deliverance might fit this description.

A game I feel has a great story but is way too easy is Assassins Creed Origins even on nightmare level.

A game that is challenging that has story that doesn't really hit deep emotionally (to me) is Elden Ring. (Again maybe others feel differently about this)

Looking forward to seeing what else might meet these criteria.

Beginner Questions Before I Dive In - High Survivability/Melee/Ranged Options

Looking to do my first run on Survivor.

Im leaning towards a Challenger/Medic build to combine melee first focus with some ranged.

Questions:

  • Is this a viable build for a first run? Is it fun? I dont care about min-maxing.
  • I already started and Im in Yaesha for my first level/world. I started as a Medic, but was reading that the best to start with Challenger as primary. Should i restart or just move forward from here and swap to Challenger next?
  • Are there other build recommendations for something that combines melee/high survivability and still allows for some ranged when needed or a balance between ranged and melee?
  • Anything else I need to consider?

I will likely play the game only once maybe twice so I prefer a build idea that I can make work in my first run.

Help With Difficulty Settings Please - Game Too Easy So Far

Just started this game and Im only about 5 hours in at Siwa and figuring out how everything works. This is my first AC game and Im really feeling the pull to the game and the story of revenge for his son is very powerful as a dad. So I really want to keep playing.

But the one issue Im seeing is its too easy so far and Im not that great at games. Im playing on Hard. I am at level 5. I added enemy level scaling. I have not yet tried to take out the first boss Medunamun but everything else has been very easy so far.

Im wondering if Im just in the starter area still and the difficulty ramps up or if this is what I should expect if Im fighting enemies within 1 level or so of my level.

I also noticed the problem with fighting higher level enemies isnt that their behavior is harder but I just dont do any damage to them.

Im considering playing in Nightmare mode but saw that the bosses get extremely spongy this way so perhaps nightmare mode for everything and hard for bosses.

Just trying to get a sense of what to expect and best way to play and maintain a challenge throughout. It doesnt have to be a soulslike level of challenge I just dont want to feel like a lawn mower everywhere I go as it starts to get boring and feel like completing a checklist and not trying to take on an entire empire as a single guy.

If AC games are just generally easy, let me know too so I can set my expectations correctly. Thanks.

New Difficulty Controls?

I watched a video from mortismal and he mentioned that a recent patch added some additional controls to adjust the difficulty. Not the new challenge mode.

My one complaint about the game was that it has been too easy.

I logged back in after 5 months today and went to the options menu but I don’t see anything related to adjusting difficulty levels.

Does anyone know where these settings are or if they exist? Do I have to start a new game to access these settings?

Thanks

Challenging Turn Based Combat

I’m looking for a game that makes me feel like I did. During the first few levels of baldurs gate 3 before it got too easy. Something where you have to really think strategically and tactically about your battles and winning a battle feels like an actual accomplishment not just going through the motions.

Would like it to remain this way most of the game.

I prefer good more modern graphics and not too old but will be open minded.

Open to any type of world - fantasy, Sci fi, horror etc

I play on PC
