Report: Flyers drawing trade interest from 3 teams for Owen Tippett
broadstreethockey.comWild, Red Wings, Senators Blockbuster Trade
Minnesota receives: Larkin, Debrincat, Tkachuck
Detroit receives: Yurov, Pinto, Brodin, Hartman, Heidt/Ritchie/Spacek/Lambos level prospect, Middleton/Trenin, MN's 27 1st
Ottawa receives: Wallstedt, Stramel, Brink, Benak, Heidt/Ritchie/Spacek/Lambos level prospect, Middleton/Trenin, MN's 28 & 29 1sts
This trade hinges on a few hypotheticals. First off is the possibility that if Larkin leaves, Debrincat may inform the Wings that he will not re-sign after 26/27. In that situation, they'd be wise to get some sort of value back for him while he still has a full year left. Also, Elliott Friedman said recently that he thinks there will be other players who ask out this summer. With rumors of Brady possibly not being happy in Ottawa, he too could be moved this offseason if he tells the Sens he doesn't plan on staying. As many Red Wings' fans have insisted over the last few days, Wallstedt is a redundant asset for them considering their strong goalie pipeline.
So, Ottawa gives up Pinto to facilitate the Larkin trade and get the stud young goalie they've reportedly been interested in. While also receiving a feisty young winger in Brink to replace some of the scoring lost from Tkachuck, a 6'3" power forward center on an ELC to replace Pinto's role and give them more cap flexibility, and a winger prospect who put up some very impressive numbers during his first season in the OHL along with 2 1sts. They can then in turn flip Ullmark to a goalie needy team for another 1st.
The Red Wings get a mix of centers who can play up and down the lineup. Having those three as their center core would give the Wings' ample roster flexibility in order to help offset the loss of Larkin and Debrincat. Brodin also provides a lot of versatility for them in where he could play. Being an elite shutdown d, he could anchor his own pairing. Or they could put him with Seider to form a suffocating duo. Throw Pinto out there too at the same time and that would be an extremely difficult group to play against. Wings and Sens may also choose between Middleton and Trenin depending on who best fits either teams' needs.
Although a steep price to pay for Minnesota, basically emptying out their entire cupboard in this scenario, they instantly form one of the most dynamic top 6s in the entire league. Additionally, the Wild gain the added benefit of becoming even more of an attractive destination for players looking to move to a contender in the future.
While highly unlikely this many assets are moved at one time, I thought this was an interesting and fair proposal when you take into consideration that all of Larkin's, Debrincat's and Brady's respective values are diminished from what they'd be in a vacuum given their circumstances. What needs to be added or subtracted to balance this deal, if anything?
