Mail Merge and Envelope Printing is incredibly broken

Really not trying to troll here. I love the idea of Libre Office and I want it to be amazing.

But I just spent something like 4 hours trying to get mail merge to work properly, on documents that were already set up and working great with Word and Excel. Then after painstaking hours getting that mostly working, but having to work around many weird issues, I moved on to printing envelopes. Then I spend more hours trying to get the envelopes printing, again, with files that already worked correctly in Word.

So after all that, it still wouldn't print them correctly. So I installed an old version of MS Office 2013, opened the files, took 2 minutes updating fields, hit print, and BOOM! First try, everything working perfectly.

How is Libreoffice in 2026 still inferior to Office 2013? Like, seriously, guys, what are we doing here? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Little bit of strategy I hadn’t considered

Last night I discovered a bit of strategy that I had never considered before. There are tons of different ways to build characters, combine, them, utilize their powers, etc. but here is the new one I hadn’t thought of:

Sending your fastest flying heroes who have the fastest recovery together. Then they are almost instantly available for another mission. Often before the timer runs down, even if it started at the same time as their first mission. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I sent Phenom and Flambae together. Can’t remember if Flambae had to be heated up first? But they flew to the mission super fast, finished it super fast, and then Phenom was ready almost instantly, and Flam very soon after. It almost felt like a free mission, and it could really help at those times when you’re short-handed with too many missions at once. I’ll have to experiment with it a bit.

Chase 🏃🏾‍♂️ (Sorry in advance 😢)

I apologize in advance for opening old wounds with this, but my god this is such a great music cue! 😳 Chase knowing it could be his last ride, doing the epic hero thing, and the parallel chords and melody really give it a quietly epic, almost holy quality.

You probably missed this music cue the first time over all the sobbing. 😢

Thanks to all who have been so kind and supportive as I post these. It’s been inspiring me to keep practicing and figuring out new cues as we go. As I mentioned, my keyboard skills are pretty rough, so this has been a challenge. I really appreciate it. ❤️

Happy Birthday Mandy! Part 2! 🪽🪽

Part 2 of my Mandy Birthday Tribute.

Happy Birthday, Mandy!

I’ll never forget the beautiful flight across LA. 😍

(Tomorrow we might relive our trauma with Chase a bit. 😬😢)

Side note: I got a new keyboard, and the sounds inspired me to learn a few songs from the Dispatch soundtrack. I really suck at keys, but learning and posting them here has been inspiring, and you’ve all been so kind to me. It’s been inspiring me to keep going and challenging myself. So thank you all! ❤️

Struggling with Missions? Here are some tips!

Okay, I wrote this out as a comment for someone, so I figured I would just make it into a post. If you're struggling with missions, not sure who to send, and failing more missions than you would like, this guide is for you. 👍

  1. Pay attention to the VERBS in the mission descriptions. They are highlighted in orange, and they are hinting at what will be needed for the mission. For example, "mobilize quickly" means mobility, "protect" means vigor, "defuse the bomb" is probably going to be intellect, etc. Some might be a little unclear and you may get them wrong sometimes, but they give you some guidance. Now choose your heroes based on being strong in those areas you need. At then end of the mission, it gives symbols for each verb, so CONFIRM what you thought. It helps you learn.
  2. Don't be afraid to swap your heroes in and out to see what it does to the stats, and try them in DIFFERENT ORDERS to see how it affects things. Putting Coupe in different slots boosts different stats. Putting Prism after a hero causes her to make a copy of them, or if you don't want that, put her before them. Try multiple options to see how it affects things, and you can always click them again to remove them.
  3. Go for synergy! Each character develops synergy with another. Punch/Coupe, Flam/Prism, Visi/Golem, Malevola/Sonar. Whoever gets cut, their partner develops synergy with their replacement, either Water Boy or Phenom. Send the synergy partners together as often as you can, because they get a big boost from that, and then their synergy also grows throughout the game, for even better boosts.
  4. Build synergy partners together! When upgrading stats, consider balancing the synergy partners off each other. Coupe and Punch Up are the best example. If you look at their stats, they both are strong in combat, but then all the other stats one is weak and the other is strong. It's a grea example of how to build the synergy partners. Keep Golem strong in vigor and movement, and you can focus on intellect and charisma with Visi. Then you send them together and they fill up a lot of the board. Don't try to make everyone "balanced" individually, have them balance against each other.
  5. Learn to use the special abilities! Is one of your characters injured? Put them on a call with Mal, and she will heal them? Running low on heroes to send? Put someone with Prism after them, and she will copy them to fill out the board better. Or once Golem is upgraded, he can make multiple copies of himself. Golem can handle SO MANY calls by himself at that point, saving you other heroes. Learn the different abilities, and utilize them as much as possible. Once Flambae's ability grows his combat and movement to max, and Prism can copy him? They can easily fill the whole board by the end of the game, just the two of them.
  6. Use Visi a lot, and send her on SUCCESSFUL missions. If she gets neglected, or fails often, it has narrative consequences. But also, if you upgrade her ability to "Wolf Pack" she gives DOUBLE XP to anyone on that mission. So send as many with Visi as possible on the missions that can have 3 or 4 heroes. It's a great way to build XP fast.
  7. Don't be afraid to let a mission go once in a while rather than send someone unprepared. If you only have one hero and they are a bad fit, it may be better to just skip that one and let it be "missed" rather than have that hero fail and be injured.
  8. Once you have the coffee, band-aid, and the heart, you can take a hero out of recovery, heal them, or bring them back from being downed. You only can use them once per shift each, but it's a great tool when you have the perfect hero but they are resting.
  9. Pay attention to clues that there might be a "perfect hero" for the job. Does the mission have to do with ghosts or cults? Send Malevola. She's a demon. Does it have to do with a pop star? Send Prism. More often than not, they will then have a special ability that gives you an "auto-pass" for the mission. The way it works is you will get the notice that the mission needs your input, and then look for one of the character's photo for one of the options of how to respond. If their photo is there, you should ALWAYS choose that option. It means an auto-pass.
  10. When a mission in progress pops up and needs your input, it's just like an initial mission. The different options you can choose, have VERBS, so you need to look at whether your current crew has strengths or weaknesses on those things. If one option is "fight" and the other is "talk it out", you need to see if your crew is stronger in combat or stronger in charisma. Choose depending on the stronger stat.

I know this is crazy long, but I hope it helps! Save this for your later playthrough if you want!

No failures has a downside 😬🤔

So I'm doing another playthrough, and I have almost all characters fully upgraded to level 12 in Episode 7.

But here's the problem. The only hero left to do training with Blazer is Punch Up, except he's locked out, because he's NEVER failed a mission this entire playthrough. 😂 So I literally can't train him even the first level of training, since he's never failed and never been injured, which triggers his initial ability and allows him to be trained.

Such a weird problem to have, and I'm not complaining at all, I just find it kind of funny that having some characters never fail can be a little bit of a negative I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

A Little Night Music

Got a new (to me) keyboard, and I was testing out the electric piano patches. So you KNOW I had to bust out this awesome piece of music. 😉 Thought you all might appreciate this. 👍🏻

Bluetooth issues with PS4 controller?

I’m hoping others can shed some light. I sometimes use my PS4 controller plugged in, where it works perfectly, but I get tired of the cable. If I use it wirelessly with Bluetooth, it works pretty well most of the time, but then it sort of loses connection a bit and drifts, making aiming and menus difficult. It seems to happen more when my controller has the desk between it and the computer. (There’s no drift with the joysticks, by the way, it’s caused but the connection)

So here’s my question, and maybe some of you will have some insight:

  1. Does a PS5 controller have less of this kind of issue? I’ve been thinking about switching.
  2. (EDIT: It's actually worse than I thought. I forgot I'm using a TP-Link Bluetooth dongle) I’m using the internal Bluetooth in my motherboard. Would switching to a USB Bluetooth receiver, maybe even one with an antenna, likely help this? Anyone tried that?
  3. My Xbox controller tends to work much more smoothly wirelessly, but I kind of hate the Xbox controller. 😂

Any and all ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How bad is this?

Tread is still good on these tires, but there’s a little cracking in between the tread in a few spots on one tire. No cracking on the sidewalls, just a few spots in between tread.

This is for a very old car that currently has a very bald tire. Just wanting to replace the bald one and the other front tire with these two but how concerned should I be with these cracks? I’m thinking even with the cracks, it’s better than a bald tire, but what do you all think?

Blazer is a flawed manager, and I love it 😉

EDIT: I think a lot of people think I'm saying she's a BAD manager, and I'm not! She's a good manager in general, but this is about her having some flaws and making mistakes, which is a good thing for a fictional character.👍 /end of EDIT

I wrote some of this out in response to another post, but thought it was worth its own discussion.

Everyone criticizes Blazer's decision to cut a Z Team member, and I do too. I think it's a big mistake, but here's the thing....

It's OKAY for a great character to make mistakes in fiction! In fact, it's BETTER, because we don't want them all to be perfect, we want them to make mistakes and then get better. Just like every member of the Z Team, we root for them to fix their mistakes and get better, so why should Blazer be treated differently? 🤷‍♂️

Her heart is in the right place. She's trying to help reform former villains, and she wants the best for them. But think about it from her perspective. They just ran off several different dispatchers, they are all ranked at the bottom, and they are constantly giving the entire branch trouble. You can imagine that SDN is probably coming down hard on her and talking about cancelling the program. She is at a loss for what to do, and yeah, Robert is making progress with them, but she doesn't know ALL of that, and she's still feeling like they've been screwing up for too long and not taking it seriously.

WE know that Robert is getting through to them, but from Mandy's perspective, I think she's just trying to give him a head start by making them take it all seriously, because she sees the potential that Robert could help them. It just happens that it's pretty much the worst way she could try to help. 😂

Funny Flambae Detail I Just Noticed

I'm sure many of you have noticed this before, but for some reason this never registered with me on multiple playthroughs until just now.

After Flam gets the noodles all over WaterBoy, and Robert asks how he would like it, Flam says, "I don't think about that, because I'm not a food thrower away-er." And while he says this he is LITERALLY throwing away someone else's food. 😂😂

It feels like AdHoc just never misses an opportunity for a tiny joke, sight gag, or a nod to something. The writing and "staging" is just off the charts.
