1.4 Beta and Shenanigans

So I started as Verona in 1.3.11. The move to 1.4 was super smooth with one caveat, please see below.

Conquered northern Italy during the Skalinger War (took about 4-5 wars running in parallel) and pressed the claims to erase the Antagonism. Basically it was me and Naples left in Italy.

After that released Florence, reconquered it immediately and released and played as Florence. That’s necessary to reset myself later to Tier 1 country again.

Conquered my former boss Verona and inherited all its vassals coalition free.

It was 1380s already so I attacked into the Ottomans and Anatolia, flipped to Turkish, and joined the Ottoman Rise situation as the leader.

That’s when 1.4 dropped and I realised that it’s beautiful — but — it drops you out of the Leader of the Turk reform as soon as you change the culture. It was too late to adjust, so I retuned to 1.3 for a few years, flipped to Bulgarian, formed Bulgaria (Tier 1), flipped to Greek and Orthodox, formed Greece (Tier 2) and Byzantium (I guess Tier 3?), reinstalled 1.4.

On the month tick the game made me Rūm (Tier 4) and then I was able to become Rome (Tier 4 or 5).

Flipped back to Catholic on demand of the HRE Emperor and that triggered the Tuscan event which turned me into Tuscany, Tier 1 again. Unfortunately, it removed my Republic and made me into a Monarchy, but fine.

After that conquered Austria with the “Restore Roman Borders” CB, flipped culture to Danube or something, and became Austria.

Currently sitting at 118 unique advances, see photo.

I guess my next plan is to go East and become Manchu, then form Russia for all the proximity bonuses, and eventually China via the Manchu event. Then maybe HRE?

If anyone has any suggestions, please share!

HRE in 1571

Sharing in case anyone has any questions.

Started as Bohemia, clicked “Renovatio Imperii” in 1571.

A few things which surprised me:

- Revoke Privilégia doesn’t seem to do anything. I expected it to make all the HRE princes my vassals, like in EU4, but it didn’t.

- I got no notification that a couple of princes left the HRE. 100% voted for Revoke Privilégia so I was surprised to see a couple of dropouts after forming HRE. I can reconquer them easily with the claim CB.

- There doesn’t seem to be an achievement for forming the HRE.

In terms of the game flow, I started with a no-CB on the Ottomans and Byzantium, and just kept expanding around the HRE while constantly improving relations with the princes.

My IA gain started at 0.12 and grew to 0.77 at the end.

I became Emperor quite late (after the Hussite wars launched, where I chose to remain Catholic) and had to undo a lot of damage which Austria did — Holy Roman Figurehead, Circles… so if I actually had a goal to form the HRE as soon as possible, I could have done a few decades earlier.

Sweden and Norway are my PUs. Lots of Dominions, vassals, and fiefdoms, and some colonial nations in Africa.

Can’t build local governors

So as I understand, we can build local governors in cities if there’s a direct connection by road to our capital through owned land, either by ourselves or vassals.

The map shows that I have a road between Prague (my capital) and Constantinople which I own directly. The tooltip in blue highlight says there’s already a road and I can’t build another one.

The road passes through 2 or 3 vassals.

And yet, when I try to build a local governor in Constantinople, the game blocks me saying I need a road.

Would anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

Hussite Worth it At All?

So I won the Hussite situation by allying Austria the Emperor and chilling for 30 years in Europe (conquered all Balkans and Anatolia meanwhile).

Honestly I’m really under-whelmed by my new religion. Catholicism or Orthodoxy seems so much stronger.

I’m thinking to reload the situation and replay it as Catholic Bohemia and become HRE… now that I have the achievement, staying Hussite seems to make zero sense apart from role play.

Is there any reason at all to remain Hussite? Like can I create a Hussite HRE?

1.3 Impact on Economy + Possible Solition

Played 1.2.1 before Point 1. Then installed 1.3 and economy nose-dove into a free fall.

At Point 2, got the Dynamic Market Stockpiles mod from the workshop (by HappyMonkey99). Economy began to recover.

Byzantium: 5 Sons, 0 Heirs

So… I have 5 sons, all should be eligible, one has just turned 16.

Yet my succession screen shows 0 heirs.

What should I do?

This is possibly my favourite sushi place right now. The name of this Izakaya is すし酒場 一楽. “Sushi Sakaba Ichiraku” or “Pure Pleasure sushi and wine house.”

This entire meal from the first two pictures including sushi, sashimi, several cups of excellent sake, and some extras was around 8 or 9 thousand yen.

What’s pictured on the last photo is the absolute show stopper — salmon toro, it was a separate dinner night.

Located in Takatsuki Hakubaicho, about 7 minutes walk north from the JR station. Gets super busy during dinner, so advance reservation is a must.

I’ve been there many times, they also do a very fast takeout. Costs about 6,000 yen and is enough for two.

The place is run by three super friendly and energetic young chefs and two rather strict (but always helpful) servers.

The printed menus are all in Japanese but they have an online menu in English.

Sorry for the messy counter, the place isn’t big and it’s packed.
