Hot Air Gun Tier List

Good Afternoon Gents,

My manager gave me permission to get a tier list for the Basic, Mid, and Top tier of the hot air guns. Pictured is the hot air gun that I ordered. The first one we had was garbage. It was the hot air gun wit the fan on the handle. Was garbage. So i improved upon it by getting the tube one, but where I messed up at as you can see is that the air and temp are on the same nozzle. So i'm allowed to get a new one but he wants a tier list and also for me to explain the differences of them all.

I deal mainly with laptops and micro pcs like the Optiplex 7000 series. And laptops are Dell, and Lenovo and some HP. The ones for businesses so for dell it'll be the latitudes and Thinkpads like T14s and etc. The main project I will be doing when I do get the heat gun is We about 11 Optiplex 7000s that have bad front USB ports and since those connectors are hard to find, I need to take them off some bad units and replace them. Since I cannot control the separate nozzles, I end up burning the piece even tho I do get the usb connector off. What I did learn about the hot air guns were that there were two types. Helical wind and straight wind, I knew nothing about a week ago. But yeah I would love to hear you all thoughts on the topic on what you guys recommend. You guys already helped me a lot with the flux/solder situation as well. So thanks again in advance!

Flux and Solder I use vs what I used to use

Good Morning,

So in the pictures are the flux that I used to use and what I use now. And also wondering if the current solder/flux I use is good enough and if not I'm open to suggestions.

When I got to the job I was given the Plusivo and the Chipquik SMDLT10, but what I upgraded to was The Deximro leaded 63/37 and I did some searches and seen that Kester was a brand used a lot. Was just wondering thoughts on it and If I had to upgrade what people suggested. Thanks!

Anyone know where to find this replacement USB port

Good Morning,

Based on the pictures that I have provided. Anyone know where I cand find these at. I bought the wrong ones. And as you can see by the part that I took out that I can't reuse the part. I would want to. but I made the mistake of buying a 2 in 1 solder/hot air station. Not knowing that much at the time but then learning that I need to find one where the hot air and the temp are on different nozzles and not on the same nozzle. But the hot air gun I was using prior at work had the fan on the handle. I even learned a day ago about vertical/hilical wind with hot air guns as well. I guess you gotta go through it to learn about it. Even grabbed a new toy with the Sugon A9 solder station. I don't think until I get a new hot gun I won't be able to take the parts out and still use it due to not being able to completely control the air/temp in my current gun. But if anyone could point to the replacement usb, I would be most appreciative. They are for micro form pcs (Optiplex 7000 model mainly).

Where do you guys get your schematics from?

Good Morning Gents/Gals,

I was wondering if anyone might have a site or two where you can get schematics from for Dell and Lenovo laptops. Nothing too recent. About 2015-2023 ish. I work for an IT company where I solder and thanks to reddit and their forums have been able to find a great solder iron thanks to all the posts in here, figured I'd try with schematics too. I use both FlexBV and Boardviewer.

I watch a lot of partspeople and sorin on youtube and joey does tech and I am no where near them but I do see them whip out the schematics from time to time to work on harder problems dealing with the motherboards. I'm trying to solve the biggest issue that we have or the biggest issue in general and that's the "Won't power on/Won't charge". If I could only get good at those 2 issues, I'd walk around feeling like I was Thanos. Any site would be wonderful, I know that they most likely would charge. My company would pay for it as well. I have a budget of $150 that I can order for each part/thing as I would like. Anything above that I would have to reach out to my manager just to justify a higher price for ordering something. I was subscribed to BadCaps site but I unsubscribed b/c there is very little engagement on that site a lot of times and I find reddit waaaay more engaging. People really talk in these forums for Badcaps you can see the views you get on your post but rarely anyone responds over half the time. Anyways, thanks for reading and enjoy your Friday!!
