What if the Philippines sent active combatants in the Vietnam War and introduced the draft lottery?

What if instead of sending noncombatant troops in Vietnam like the real life PHILCAG, what if the Philippines sent active combat troops in the Vietnam War to supplement the additional manpower for the US?

President Lyndon Johnson did asked for troops from the Philippines but Marcos refused. Instead he sent the noncombatant Philcag for civic duties and psyops but what if Marcos agreed and in exchange the Philippines will receive additional financial assistance from the United States

So its 1967, the Philippines began to replace the earlier noncombatant PHILCAG with active combat troops. To sell the war in the Philippines, Marcos would promote it as a “Crusade against Communism” like the earlier Philippine expeditionary troops in Korea. Young men will be drafted. For Manila draftees they will train in Fort Bonifacio then sent to Fort Magsaysay and depart from Clark and Subic and arrive in Vietnam.

As expected the far left and the student activist will denounce the draft and like the United States, colleges will have draft evadess and burnings

The came 1968, the Tet Offensive will also shock the Filipinos with the sudden VC and NVA attacks im South Vietnam. The media will show the reality of war. More bodies are coming back as more young men of draft age are sent to Vietnam. To ensure the draft is fair, a draft lottery is introduced. Everynight TV and radio stations will show the draft lotter and every family would watch the birthday announce

Yet since this is the Philippines, theres still unfairness in the draft. the rich still managed to dodged the draft due to influence. Powerful local warlords would not send their goons to be drafted in a foreign war. In the end many of those who were sent to Vietnam are from the poor

Also the war will send officers who would use the experience in Vietnam to accelerate their later career

But Marcos would only show the victories of the war and sell in his 1969 reelection with a promise of ending the war

In 1970, the First Quarter Storm exploded and this time the Vietnam War and the Draft adds fuel to the already tense situation. In 1971 the UP Diliman Commune will include burning draft cards and shelter draft dodgers with the call to bring the boys home.

Later as the Vietnam War ends, Marcos would bring the soldiers home and call them heroes but these veterans who fought the Vietcong will be used for Martial Law

Martial Law will still be declared and this time the state will hunt for draft dodgers as traitors. The former training grounds for the draft are now used as detention centers. The officers who were sent to Vietnam like Orlando Dulay now used their brutality on the Vietnamese to their own people. But Marcos would call the returning veterans heroes where in 1973 he can claim they “won” the Vietnam War

bur since this is Martial Law, any negative news regarding the Vietnam War are censored. antiwar news is suppressed

Reclamation area will always be flooded

Feel free to comment if may sala sa akon analysis (or grammer since I mixed Hiligaynon and English kag wala ko ga gamit AI para ma sulat ni)

Stripping the Purple Prose and the Sensory Details

Prose written by LLMs often uses a lot of typical sensory details and purple prose. Before, it was all about the em-dashes, but when LLMs like ChatGPT started to ditch the em-dashes, there were other factors that are considered AI factors. One of them is the use of sensory details like 'The Smell of Ozone' and other sensory words like the smell of diesel (for industrial locations or the smell of spices (if the setting is in South Asia). There's also the purple prose and the use of figures of speech.

While human writers used them for a long time and this is where LLMs are trained, LLMs can't use the right figures of speech; hence, in some prose, the figures used don't match the story.

So I decided to make prompts that stripped the scent sensory terms, limited or sometimes stripped the purple prose, and avoided the word SMELL OF OZONE.

I only learned of the word Smell of Ozone because of LLMs; before, I only learned it from science or anything related to Oxygen. At first, I just tolerated them because they sound cool, especially with sci-fi settings, but over time, I started to remove them entirely, even placing a ban on the word OZONE in my prompts

Here's the comparison of both works. One has the usual Purple Prose, sensory details, and other AI factors, while the next one is the revised version. I also tend to focus more on visuals and less on scent for my writing. Feel free to comment and suggest if this approach of stripping the Purple Prose and the Sensory Details is better

The Prompts I Used (this is applied to my projects in ChatGPT and Claude), and for this one, I used ChatGPT

Prompt

Edit this according to the Project Instructions.

No resolutions at the end, do not begin the story with a single sentence but with a paragraph

Edit in the style of a novel; make it novelistic for novels. with drama, depth, and emotions, with dialogue

Use either the Rule of One or the Rule of Two. Avoid the Rule of Three

no rule of threes, unnecessary metaphors and figures of speech that are not connected

“Write this in a natural, human way. Keep it conversational and easy to follow. Avoid overly technical words or formal phrasing. Make it sound like how someone would actually say it out loud.”

Add commas and punctuation marks. Absolutely no use of Anaophora, and do not use the rule of three, use dense literary prose with dialogue spacing to make it readable, balance the dialogue and the prose description, no scent of smells

Show the age of the characters only if added in the draft. Use controlled legato prose. Let the narration connect actions, motives, and consequences in full sentences, using conjunctions such as because, since, while, and although. Avoid isolated physical beats unless they reveal power, hesitation, or strategy. Dialogue should sound natural and complete, not clipped or theatrical.

Write in controlled procedural prose with legato movement. The narration should carry pressure through connected sentences, not through clipped beats.

Avoid one-line physical gestures, repeated pauses, and fragments. Dialogue should be natural, guarded, and complete because the characters are protecting their positions rather than performing dramatic lines.

Use controlled procedural prose in writing, not the beat-driven micro-prose or staccato beat prose. Avoid writing clipped rhythm sections and write in more connected legato prose. Use two beats written using logical conjunctions, and add unique physical movements without stating their habits.

DO NOT write scents or scent details. Instead, rely on visuals and add more visuals for the readers.

Do not mention their ages unless stated, and avoid the word ‘ozone’ and the use of scents in every description.

Avoid abstract adjectives. Describe the setting using only kinesthetic and auditory details.”

The First One:

The air in Ångermanland was electric, heavy with the scent of ozone as the storm raged above. Thunder rolled across the skies, a deep, rumbling growl that seemed to shake the very earth. Lightning crackled, striking down with furious precision, igniting the night in brilliant flashes of light. But this was no ordinary storm. It wasn’t nature’s fury that ravaged the small village below—it was something far more deliberate, far more terrifying.

The village had been reduced to rubble, its houses struck by relentless bolts of lightning, each flash leaving behind scorched earth and smoking wreckage. Cars were twisted heaps of metal, their frames melted and shattered. Trees stood like charred skeletons, blackened by the intensity of the storm. In the aftermath, the village looked like the victim of some cruel god’s wrath.

Yet no one had died. Not a single person had been harmed.

The Second One:

The storm crossed Ångermanland with a discipline no winter weather should have had, because the lightning did not roam across the valley the way a real storm would. It descended where the instruments had marked streets, roofs, and junction boxes below, one strike following another with enough spacing to be counted and enough force to flatten whatever it touched.

From the ridge, the mock village looked complete for only a few seconds at a time. Then a roof opened along its spine and folded inward. Then a garage door blew loose and skidded across the road. Then the transformer yard flashed white, and the whole square dropped into a darkness broken only by the next bolt coming down through it.

Cars parked along the central road took the strikes badly. Their windows burst first, then the bodies sagged under the heat, and the rain ran over warped metal in quick silver lines. By the time the thunder began to separate into longer intervals, the village no longer looked like a model built for observation. It looked like a town after a strike sequence.

Edit: Not Rule of Three but Rule of Two

Mae Rivera’s songs felt like its a jukebox song from the 1980s

With her signature song Arayyy (which is based on a 1960s American song Timi Yuro’s Hurt) the sound, the style of music felt like its an attempt to recreate the style of Imelda Papin from the 1980s. When I first heard the song back in the day I thought its from the 80s since it was played alongside Imelda Papin, Eva Eugenio and other classic OPMS on Sundays.

The song had obvious double meanings which was common in the novelty era but this was made in 2000 just as bubblegum pop and boy bands were a thing

So yeah I made a crazy self challenge for myself. I had this bold plan to listen to every Filipino Music I can find from the past to the present and its wild as hell. Took me years to research and download every music. From the Precolonial music (mostly indigenous songs from various ethnic groups) to Spanish Rondallas and Folk Music like Carinosa ans Sarong Banggi to Kundimans, Manila Sound, OPM, Pinoy Rap and even commercial jingles because why not haha

Before I started this last 2023 and it took me 6 months from 1500 to 2023 and now I started last February and as of now Im still in 1994

Well its not all because if its ALL Filipino music it would take me years to finish

Btw I play this on my car so its my car music on my daily commute.

Will update if youre all interested to know
