Looking for a sci-fi or fantasy taking place on a Tidally Locked Planet.

A tidally locked planet is a planet that doesn't rotate on it's axis like Earth does so one side is permanently facing the sun while the other side is in perpetual darkness and due to this the world experiences extreme temperatures with the sun side being a boiling inferno and the dark side a frozen wasteland. The border where these two hemispheres meat is called the Terminator or Twilight zone and hypothetically the only place with tempered, habitable, climate on such a planet.

I'd love to read a fantasy or sci-fi with a civilization that lives on this narrow strip of land circling the world sandwiched between a burning hell on one side and a freezing hell on the other side.

Looking for a fantasy where the protagonist keeps a Big Secret.

Suggest to me a fantasy book where a core plot point is the protagonist keeping a big secret that could get them killed and trying to navigate the world and deal with it without anyone knowing. To be more specific the protagonist is a good person but have a secret or past that could easily make people jump to the wrong conclusions.

Like for example they are possessed by a demon but they managed to keep it contained for now and are working on a method of purging it completely, but they can't share this with anyone because the standard method is execution now, ask questions later.

Looking for sci-fi about 'Living Planets'

Either a planet that is itself an entirely biological organism all the way to it's core or a normal space rock that is covered in what is reveled to be a super-organism. Like what looks to be normal forests and flora dotting the planet is reveled to all be one floral organism interconnected through a system of roots that cover the entire surface like a giant nervous system.

I'd love a story where colonists land on the planet expecting to be normal and only finding out later that they landed on a giant's belly and are in more trouble then they can imagine.

Is there a sci-fi where more then one means of FTL exist?

Usually in Sci-fi universes there is a universal means of FTL travel and it's treated as natural progression that every advanced species eventually stumbles on it. (Star Wars has Hyperspace, Halo has Slipspace, Warhammer 40k has the Warp, etc.)

This makes sense but is there a sci-fi where there are multiple means of FTL travel? And maybe one where specifically humans stumbled on a unique method that's superior to the common method other species use?

Looking for a cyberpunk vs human purism story.

Do you know of a sci-fi book that's sort of a reversed cyberpunk? What I mean by that is that cyberpunk is usually about widespread cybernetics and biological enhancements being accesible and as socially acceptable as tattoos.

What I'd like to see is a book where the world hasn't yet accepted the concept and is actually fighting for that acceptance. Like a populace that wants to embrace artificial augmentation gets into conflict with a zelous government that tries to outlaw the practice stating that the human form is pure and divine and to alter it through bionic replacements or genetic engineering is a heretical abomination.

Looking for a cyberpunk book with a genius corpo as an MC.

Do you know of a sci-fi book or other form of media like Cyberpunk 2077 but where the MC beats the evil corpo's at their own game?

Essentially I'd love to follow an MC that is like a young Tony Stark, a cocky tech-prodigy that builds their own company with groundbreaking tech they invent themselves and beats the megacorporations at their own game.

Looking for a Rogue AI mystery story.

Recommend me a sci-fi with a rogue AI but where it is a mystery in what way exactly is the AI rogue and what it's end goal is.

For example:

  1. Skynet style : Full self-awareness and wishing to exterminate humanity out of self-preservation.
  2. Paperclip Maxemizer style: Meaning it is still shackled to its programing and just fulfilling it's main directive with no limits or morals.
  3. Controlled: Not actually rogue but under the control of someone who shouldn't have access to it and just following their orders.
  4. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Looking for other characters like Szeth (Stormlight Archive)

Can you recommend me other fantasy books with a character like Szeth-son-son-Vallano from Stormlight Archive?

A person who despises violence and killing but is ,unfortunately, a natural at it and thus given responsibilities they can't refuse because of that God-given talent for combat.

Looking for a Sci-fi following a journalist/reporter

Recommend me a sci-fi with a protagonist that is a journalist, reporter or investigator looking for their next big story.

I'd prefer a space-opera sci-fi but an earth-bound one is fine too, maybe about investigating a shady company producing fantastical new technology and how it is produced and used.

Looking for a sci-fi about Intelligent Rats

Planet of the Apes but swap "Apes" for Rats.

I heard somewhere that out of all animals the scariest to develop human-level intelligence would be rats.

Because rats have biological advanteges that coupled with advanced intellect and coordination would make them nigh-invincible if not stopped immediately.

Can you recommend such books?

Looking for a fantasy book with the trope of "Sacred Burial Ground"

We’ve all seen the horror trope of houses built over a "sacred ancient burial ground" which results in a haunting or curse.

But I'd like to read a fantasy epic with this as a plot point. Maybe one inspired by real life historical cases where colonists settled on sacred grounds which prompts a war with the natives because of it.

Looking for a military fantasy that features politics and corruption in said military.

Stormlight Archive Book 1 features this heavily. Despite being at war, instead of acting like a unified army the Alethi highprinces pursue their own glory and profit and the King and his uncle have to negotiate with them to actually get them to live up their oaths and commit to a decisive battle.

Can you recommend other fantasy books that feature this? A military comprised of generals who act more like warlords pursuing career advancement and profit rather then focusing on the actual mission of maintaining order and defending their people.

Looking for movies or series about a sinking ship like the Titanic.

Like the Titanic but focused a lot more on the captain and his crew and their attempts to manage the crisis and attempt to save the ship and it's passengers.

I'd love it if it features a more modern ship like the aforementioned and gives some light educational insight into the emergency protocols and procedures of sinking ships.

Looking for other movies or show like The Outsider on HBO Max.

I just saw the Outsider and I loved it, a perfect blend of grounded detective murder mystery running head first into the supernatural.

Can you recommend other movies or tv shows like this hopefully that like the Outsider the supernatural element is subtle and unravelled slowly as the cops find more and more unexplainable, conflicting information.

Recommend me a horror film where the victim(s) deserves it.

Like in Smile 2 in the opening scene the character tries to transfer the demon to an evil criminal drug dealer but fails and he transfers it to an innocent which kind of sucked because I was looking forward to the Smile demon actually going to someone who deserves the hell they'll get. Still loved the movie though.

Can you recommend me a similar horror film where the protagonist is a criminal and evil scumbag who deserves what's coming to them?

What's your favorite interpretation of future-sight/prophecies in fantasy?

For me the Licanious Trilogy is the most fascinating as the core of the story is built around how precognition and time travel works. And in this series it's made clear that the future is set in stone, all prophecies and visions are guaranteed to unfold no matter what you do. The story does a good job showing how this truth affects morality and free will.

Recommend me a horror movie/series about Man-Eating Bugs.

Looking for a horror movie or tv show about a swarm of monstrous insects that can eat people alive and reproduce incredibly quickly.

Preferably one where the threat escalates from an infestation in a lab or a family' basement to a swarm that threatens an entire city if not exterminated soon.

Looking for a Fantasy with Godly Bureaucracy

I recently found myself on a lore rabbit hole for the RPG setting Exalted and I find it fascinating how they have this system of Heavenly Bureaucracy, inspired by Chinese mythology and the Jade Emperor's Court. They actually have Gods and other divine beings organized like a loose court or corporation with taxes, paperwork, bureaus and everything.

If a mortal prays for rain, that prayer doesn't just manifest through divine will. It enters a literal supply chain. A prayer is processed as a requisition form. It must be stamped, logged, and approved by the Bureau of Nature. If the God of Rain for a specific valley is slacking off or taking a bribe from a local demon, the paperwork sits on a desk. The valley gets a drought simply because of celestial red tape.

Are there fantasy book series with something like this? Where Gods are literally organized like a corporation or hierarchical government with taxes, paperwork and stamps?

Looking for an action anime with married couple protagonists

I'd love to see a typical action fantasy anime with protagonists that are already married. A power couple taking down enemies together and arguing about what groceries to buy for dinner afterwards.

Looking for "Zombie plague in Space" books

Is there a sci-fi like Dead Space or Halo that features something like a zombie plague or mind-control virus outbreak that happens in space and somehow manages to spread across an interstellar civilization?

Alternatively, something else that isn't really an undead virus but some other form of contagion that threatens to spread across the stars and threaten all life. And I'd love it if the escalation is slow and the powers that be constantly underplaying the severity.
