Humidity killed my RX100vii

Well, maybe not killed. But permanently maimed. I took it with me to Iguazu Falls. Yes, yes, I know…. But it wasn’t the falls that got her. It was the smothering humidity. I don’t think I’ve encountered humidity quite that intense anywhere. It had the door locks on my truck going haywire, and was causing malfunctions with the EVF on another camera. The only thing that seemingly didn’t suffer was my phone, which I used to make a lot of videos.

Specifically the dial on the back of the RX100 stopped responding to rotational input - you know, how most of us change the shutter speed or aperture.

I am sad - the camera is “out of service” for the foreseeable. I never expected to like or depend on it so much - I bought it as a stop-gap camera when my camera bag got stolen. Didn’t really expect to use it much once I replaced my kit, but - it found a permanent place in my jacket pocket.

Anyway that’s my sad little eulogy for my RX100vii, thanks for reading.

J90 Prado, exhaust heat shield and rear shock absorber questions

Hey gang! I know very little about mechanical car things. I recently got this prado to tool around South America, hopefully all the way down to Ushuaia and back up. Trying to handle as much preventative maintenance as I can before I start to cross really large distances in the middle of nowhere. I recently discovered I appear to be missing a heat shield over the exhaust pipe in the mid-section of the vehicle. I am wondering how important/urgent that is to replace. I also notice the rubber mounts on the rear shock absorbers look pretty rough. I don’t know if that means anything though, maybe they’re fine? Or do I need to get em replaced like yesterday? Thank you in advance!

Also - I’m sure someone is likely to mention the lower ball joints in front - this is something I’m aware of and asked a mechanic about, he told me mine have some life left in them. Although I haven’t checked them for play myself as of yet.

1KZ in the US?

Hi everyone! Recently bought a 97 Prado with 1KZ-TE in South America to tour around the continent. At some point I’d be interested to drive it up to the US/Canada too. Have read online the 1KZ was not certified or something for the US, and is therefore not street legal? Can anyone in here confirm that? Or are some of you driving your 1KZ’s in the US, and if so, how did that work with getting it titled and registered, etc? Many thanks, sorry if ignorant question.

Edit: thanks everybody! Super exciting to learn it's possible!
