Headway Update
Another 10 dollar pay cut per client. This is ridiculous. And it's for EVERY appointment rather than a one time fee.

I made a post about this most recent experience on r/therapists, but Headway has scorned me for the last time. I finally pulled the plug and described my account. I suspect that HW will drag their feet with the deactivation so I’ll keep yall posted on how that goes. I’m paneled on my own but I’m still learning a few ropes (does anyone know how to bill UMR?) but wish me luck!!
Hello all, I wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience with Headway. Recently-ish, they added a tab where the billing/what is collected is more transparent. It shows the date it a copay was collected, etc. It also shows refunds. I have noticed that for a SUBSTANTIAL number of clients Headway is refunding money that was over collected dating back to freaking 2024. For two of them, it is HUNDREDS of dollars. This really infuriates me for so many reasons. 1- it makes me look incompetent 2- In this economy, people dont just have extra money laying around to give Headway an interest free loan 3- What even is the point of Headway if they cannot do the bare minimum of collecting correctly. Why is it taking over TWO years to figure out a mistake was made? Sorry for the rant, its just ridiculous.
When I first started my private practice, I used a billing service called Therathink. They did a great job, but of course that’s an added expense. One of the reasons Headway was alluring was because I wouldn’t have to do the billing anymore. Now that I am leaving Headway and doing billing on my own, I’m realizing that I was seriously missing out on learning how to bill, which is an essential skill in this work in my opinion.
It’s weird because I would say three out of four claims submissions are straightforward and easy but then there’s that one out of four where I hit a snafu. Its usually some kind of "benefits administrator" instead of Cigna its "Wellfleet" or something. They sometimes want a modifier that the other companies don’t want or want the claims sent somewhere different. So, I just resubmit it or call the insurance company and ask and it gets fixed. I’ve also asked for help from other providers on Facebook, which was helpful and part of my reason for making this page. Hopefully we can help each other out here.
I currently use Sessions Health and love it. I used to use Theranest but it got so expensive. Sessions is like 30/month and if you want to use the AI features it’s another 30. They are super receptive to questions and the Facebook community is helpful. I also do most of my billing through sessions. I also use Claim MD (maybe billing talk can be in another thread)
Hey everyone! Welcome to r/LeavingThePlatforms, a community for psychotherapists who are considering, planning, or actively transitioning away from venture capital-backed therapy platforms such as Headway, Alma, Grow Therapy, Rula, SonderMind, and similar services. This subreddit exists to create a space where therapists can help therapists through both the logistical and emotional aspects of practice ownership outside of VC platforms. Members are encouraged to ask questions, share lessons learned, troubleshoot billing issues, compare experiences, exchange resources, and support one another.
Providers join these platforms because they offer convenience, credentialing assistance, billing support, and access to referrals. Whether you're questioning your current platform relationship, preparing your exit strategy, or have already established an independent practice, this community is here to support you.
Feel free to introduce yourself!
Apparently, they were going to door in Remmington a few days ago. We just saw them on the Avenue pulling the glitter grift. Just a reminder to stay away from them, and that they have been known to be violent.
How the hell does he live such a life of leisure? Chasing around butterflies, chilling in the fields, standing around in the rain, watching leaves all day. How does he pay rent? The hollow tree he lives in looks pretty expensive and I know it’s in the nice part of town. He’s gotta have wealthy parents.
