Update: Images of gear from first crash

Turns out, my black rain suit did get worn through. The leathers only received a small scuff the size of my thumb nail. My right hand glove got scuffed up pretty good though!

In other news, my patella has a lateral fracture. That's the only real injury so far. Since my knee hit the guardrail sideways, my knee protector didn't save me enough to prevent fracture, but it certainly prevented a full shattering. The protector was shoved hard enough to skin part of my leg, so it seems that the energy was somewhat distributed.

Oh, also thanks F9 for turning me on (kek) to leather!

Please offer tips on how to drive a stick shift...

This is a personal post. I just fell off of my porch earlier today and broke my left knee cap. My leg currently has a cast on, and I am walking with crutches.

As some of you know, my vic has a 5 speed manual. My other vehicle is a Goldwing. Operating the clutch with a non-functional leg is no good. I was able to get myself to the hospital by using my right hand and a walking stick to operate the throttle, whereas my right leg controlled the clutch and brake. This setup is a little clunky, and I would like to be able to operate the throttle with my right hand, and possibly place the control next to/on the gear shifter, so that I can shift while applying gas.

It's a 2008. Is there any way to relocate the throttle, since it'd drive by wire? Or am I confined to rigging up a long stick so I can use my right hand to move the throttle?

Any other ideas? Thanks for the help!

Dropped my bike for the first time

TL;DR: Was going slow, went down. Armor took no damage except for a glove. Knee pad scraped my knee and leg up pretty good; knee severely injured. Currently waiting on radiology results. Without suit, knee would be broken, and upper/lower limbs would likely be covered in road rash. I rode myself to the hospital. All in, a good day.

First off, thanks u/crusaderkingo for inviting me here. If he had not, I would never have purchased my Teknic track suit, which saved my skin today.

Secondly, I was rounding a curve today, in the rain, doing about 20 mph, when my front wheel hit a patch of oil from the dump trucks. Whoop, the bike fell to its side, threw me off, and then proceeded to ride off into the sunset without me, before planting itself into a ditch about 70 feet down the road.

As for me, my right palm hit the ground first, digging some nice groves into the leather glove. After landing, I somehow spun around, sliding sideways on my back. It was at this moment I knew, I fu... was going to hit the guardrail. So in that split second, I silently hoped it wouldn't be my back that was broken.

Turns out, it was my left knee. The guardrail did not penetrate my gear. In fact, the leather suit took no abrasions whatsoever, owing to the fact I had a rain suit on, which also didn't tear. I'm lucky to have been going so slow. I didn't get any pictures of the wreck. My main goal was to get the bike out of the ditch and ride away before any troopers showed up to ask ten million questions. A kind-hearted fireman and several other dudes all piles out of their cars and helped me to drag the 900lbs behemoth out of the ditch, and send me on my way. I'll post a picture of the glove later. It was the only piece that took damage.

Right now, my knee hurts too much to stand on or bend. I'm in the emergency department getting images taken. Will make second post later.

Yesterday, I got back from a 2,200ish mile round trip to visit a friend. During the trip, I noticed that the bike would be hard to start when warm. I believe this to be caused by the high-pressure ebay fuel pump (5.2 psi) which got installed, possibly flooding the carbs. While I was on the road, I stopped and installed a fuel pressure regulator and dialed it back a notch to around 3.0 psi. It seems to be doing a bit better now.

Also, once I got to my friend's place, I noticed that there was a mystery coolant leak which only showed up the morning after. Once the radiator fan was off, the leak appeared to be coming from some sort of Y pipe connecting the engine to the radiators. It was just a dribble though, and it doesn't leak when the bike is hot, so I'm not worried about it.

While the panels were off, I decided to black out some choice chrome pieces that were rusted, along with the silver belly pieces along the bottom, and the front forks. I like the look of it now. The black helps the remaining chrome to stand out more IMO.

Overall, the trip was a success. I gave myself a mini heart attack when merging into the interstate, because the engine died suddenly. It took me slowing down to about 38 mph to realize that I bumped the kill switch with my fat fingers. Typical.

Hello boys and girls. I'm here at the invitation of u/crusaderkingo. Thanks!

I aquired my first bike three weeks ago at the age of 24, pictured above. It was sitting for five years, and required all of the usual maintenance expected due for an unattended machine left out in the sun. After whipping it back into shape, I put 1,200 miles on it locally just to see if everything was going to run properly so I don't get stranded. Then the invitation was sent.

After poking around this sub for a minute, it became clear to me that safety bluejeans weren't gonna cut it for the type of roads we have here in WNC. So yesterday, I rode out towards Knoxville and picked up my first track suit (pictured) to match my bike. It's a bit tight around the thighs, but the rest of it fits like a glove. I am, after all, 237 lbs, when I should be at 210 ideally. This is a non-issue since I was up to 260 back in december. It will fit better soon enough. The suit is slightly uncomfortable to stand in. In riding position, it's perfect.

If anyone is curious for reference, here are the measurements:

Suit: Teknic size 44

Me: 6' tall, 237 lbs, 44 chest, 36 waist, large lower body build. Excessive amount of fat present in abdomen and thighs. Suit snug in midsection; fits better as fat gets metabolized. I expect this suit to get very comfortable around the 220 mark. If you're shopping for one at my height and weight, and if you do not plan on getting in shape, go for a 46.

I was able to ride home 130 miles with no chafing or loose/baggy areas, except for around the ankles. Those are covered by boots.

Up next on my agenda is to locate some decent gloves. I'll be taking a 500 mile road trip to Cleveland at the end of the week, so having this suit puts my mind to ease. It may be uncomfortable, and that's why I bought it.
