Offered ELA position and teaching one elective-- would this be considered a "cushy" job?

Hi,
For context I have not taught for 20 years now. The last time I taught I was at a very challenging school with full classrooms, teaching 5 different levels and one planning period. I have been doing offered an 8th grade ELA position with maximum 16 kids, two sections of the same level , and one elective class. The rest of the day is lunch duty and planning time. Essentially I will teach three classes daily, but only two lesson plans needed.

I am afraid of taking a position where I feel like I am over taxed immediately especially at my age (46). On paper it sounds reasonable, but just wanted to bounce this off of other teachers.

Is this normal for an OT?

My 9 year old daughter who has combined type ADHD (and possibly Autism, but we are working on getting tested for that), started attending OT sessions a couple of months ago. The OT promised to get her two Needohs for doing certain tasks which she did. The OT decided not to give her only one this last time because she had been hitting me and was rude to me. My daughter basically has said that she will no longer do OT because her OT is a liar. I agree we should work on hitting etc, of course, but taking away something promised seems counter productive. My daughter has brought this up several times that her OT is a liar and will never trust her again. I am on the fence because I see where the OT was going with it, but my daughter cannot see that and it won't work for her personality and the way her brain operates. Is this generally how OT works-- they get ND kids to do things through gifts etc ? Should I speak to the OT about how she doesn't trust her and that's not the best way to get through to her?

Social Skills Training

My 9 year old daughter has poor social skills. Is there anything you have tried that has helped with social skills? We are thinking of trying a social skills camp, but we are open to other ideas that may have helped others. She is a very sensitive child and perceives even the slightest change in tone as a rude or mean and then will react accordingly. She has difficulty initiating conversation and playing well with more than one child. In general stays in a sour mood if we are in larger crowds-- even if its 4-5 people.

Jornay vs Methylphenidate ER

Hi all,
We started our 9 year old daughter on Jornay about two weeks ago. Before that she took generic Methylphenidate Er, we transitioned bc she would give us a hard time in the mornings. What I've noticed with Jornay is her appetite is way more reduced than Methylphenidate Er. She basically hasn't eaten a meal in a few days now (she eats some junk food at the end of the day, but that's it). We offer and prepare meals for her and she says she isn't hungry or tummy hurts. Last night we forgot to give her the Jornay and she took a dose of Methylphenidate this morning instead. She has now eaten breakfast and some snacks. Has anyone else noticed appetite differences on Jornay vs Methylphenidate ER?

Also, I feel like her attention is better on Methylphenidate ER when it's at its peak-- Jornay is more like it is smoother but the attention sort of stays in the middle all day-- if that makes sense.

Any thoughts or experiences with this ?

Question about OT techniques

We recently started taking my daughter to OT for her sensory issues and refusal to take medication everyday (she takes it now, but with a lot of resistance). The OT promised her that if she allows me to do the sensory brushing for two weeks, that she will buy her a Needoh. When we went last week, she wasnt able to get it, and says she will order it for next time we are there. The last time we went, she told my daughter she will get another Needoh if she takes her medication everyday and if she does her morning routine and without an attitude (we her parents will take her to five below with a budget of $20). That's all fine, my daughter does well like days 1-5, but day 6, she is looking for some kind of instant gratification. (we see the OT every two weeks). The speech therapist also sees her and they (the OT and ST) communicate with each other about her care. She mentioned to my daughter (who was not in a good mood when she came) that she knows that my daughter has to work for her Needoh and she will report to the OT about her behavior today. I just don't think mix/matching and expecting her behavior to be great in different areas like that and then saying basically you will get in trouble is a great idea. I am on the fence here because we need help with my daughter taking medication, but this doesnt seem to be the help it is, and I am not sure how to address with the OT. Does anyone else have experience with OT helping them with medication related issues?

We just started my 9 year old daughter on Methylphenidate ER, it has only been 4 days. I have noticed the mornings have been really hard since she started the medication. Mornings in general are difficult, but her mood is terrible since starting the medication. My husband thinks it isn't that bad compared to before, but this morning she was hitting us and that is a first for her (in the morning that is). Has anyone else experienced mean or aggressive behavior in the mornings while on Methylphenidate? She is really angry about being on medication and gives us a hard time taking the medicine to begin with, so I am on the fence if its coming from the medication or she is just really defended about medication.
