New mysteries?

Just signed up for Hallmark again after having cancelled in January. Mostly enjoy the mysteries. Besides the 2026 Hannah Swensen, any other new ones this year I should watch before my subscription ends? Thanks!

Bitty & Beau’s Coffee to Close Annapolis Location as City Dock Businesses Struggle

Any Hallmark fans? We need our Hallmark princess to show up and drive away the evil corporate overlord behind all this.

I know that sounds lighthearted and I’m not lighthearted about this. Very sad about what is happening to our downtown, especially since as each business closes I grow more suspicious that Atlas has something to do with how this city dock project is going down. Wish someone would rally us to fight it before our downtown is one soulless corporate block of concrete.

4th of July?

Suggestions for the perfect summer movie to watch on July 4th weekend? Don’t really mean Hamilton/Born on the 4th of July/Glory American History type films. Just films that say July 4th weekend, like Jaws or I Know What You Did Last Summer or National treasure.

Ideas?

Editing to add: doesn’t need to specifically mention July 4th. More looking for vibes than “holiday” 🍰

Your summer reads?

Since it’s a holiday weekend in the US, often considered the kick off to summer I thought it would be fun to ask:

What’s going to be your “beach read” this year?

Feel to drop all your ideas for summer reads, but maybe also add a small classification to help other readers add to their tbr pile ;)

I know I will be reading:

  1. The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. It’s a thriller which isn’t my favorite genre, but I’m told she’s still good
  2. Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Moreno Garcia. Genre-bridging but is inspired by Rebecca, classic gothic mystery novel
  3. everyone on this train is a murderer by Benjamin Stevens. This will be my first by him and I think he’s a new whodunnit type writer? That’s my hope. Whodunnits and classics are my preferred read.

Will definitely read many more but those are on top of the tbr pile at the moment. Just finished How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates which was so fun and The House on Graveyard Lane which was good thought not as good as Edward’s Christmas mystery in my opinion.

How about you?

Anyone read The Other Half by Charlotte Vassell?

Not too much detail for the spoiler but yeah wondering if anyone has read her series?
I just read The Other Half, first in the series, and I was decent. Characters were decent, mystery was decent. But I just kept thinking…was she trying to emulate The Secret History and just..:isn’t quite Donna Tartt? It’s like someone who wasn’t quite as a strong a writer took The Secret History and crossed it with a police procedural. Curious if anyone else saw this similarity
