Now I know that the writers debunked this theory a long time ago, and have said that the songs are not technically canon to the characters.

But seriously, why would you put the lyrics “If you linger close, it’s a hefty price; You and I are not the same; You don’t want the burden of my name” if not to hint at Qrow being Ruby‘s dad.

It is blatantly saying that you shouldn’t be around him and that he can’t share his name. If it was just supposed to be generic angst lyrics, then they should not have put something specific like that in.

That said, if he was her dad, it would mostly just be used for cheap drama, considering the rest of the writing in this show.

Also, it is absolutely stupid that the character songs are not meant to be canon to the characters. What’s the point of character songs if they can’t give you inaccurate insight into the characters?!?!?
