I am a little desperate because I use my bike for everything (including DoorDashing) while I am out of work and today it was with 1 point battery. I turned it off (took the key) and when I tried to turn it on again it would not turn on, I tried everything. Came home and left it charging and it still won’t turn on (left charging for about 2 hours). I am desperate! I don’t have money to buy a new one or to fix it in the shop. Anyone have any experience with this bike?

I live in Vancouver, Canada, and I'm tired of how unstable and saturated the industry is, as well as how hard it is to get a good job with a company. I am seriously thinking about using my experience to become an independent consultant, but I have no idea where to start or how to navigate the transition. Could someone help me?

This post is not so much to ask for guidance, but to get my feelings off my chest. I’ve spent 6 months trying to find a job, and I found a great one: good salary, great vibes, I got along great with my lead, I got along amazingly with all the people who worked there, and I felt at home.

I went to work happy, I started the weeks happy. I was there for only 2 months, got let go during probation, and it was a complete shock. During my 1-month review, I got so many praises, and I also did almost every day after that. They made me feel safe, I felt like I had a future there, I loved the company, I did my best, I really did. I was focused, proactive, eager to learn, bringing results...

First, they gave most of my work to one of their friends who was coming in on a contract. I was hurt and scared, but the manager said I was a great part of the team, did a great job, and my job was still secure and they were happy. The things she wanted me to improve on, she would help me with and train me more on. This was on Friday (it is Wednesday today, and I told her how worried I was later that Friday).

Yesterday I saw my manager scheduled a meeting with me and another HR person after avoiding me. I knew then that was it, I was getting fired, and I was. I arrived today and first thing they did was fire me. I kept begging to understand why, and my manager just kept saying it was final and within probation and that it was not a match for the company. After I asked more, the co-founder and HR leader said it was because of mistakes that I was warned about and repeated, and that it was damaging the company’s reputation. What mistakes??? Up until Friday I wasn’t warned about anything major.

I am a recruiter. First, one candidate was unhappy because his interview was rescheduled by me (twice, for different reasons that unfortunately happened and yes, this is something that should not happen, but unfortunately it had to), and we ended up pausing the process (not my choice, I was told to do so and let him know) and hired someone else. I did what I was told, I sent him the message I had to send everyone else. Same with another candidate last week, and she was unhappy because of the generic email (again, not my choice. I even sent her email to my boss to ask for guidance on how to reply to her because I wasn’t even the one dealing with her after her first round of interviews, she was). This first case happened one month ago and only on Friday I was warned about how to deal with it, and this “second mistake” wasn’t even mine.

They fired me fast, no warning, no real explanation. They asked if I wanted to be accompanied to my desk to gather my belongings or if I’d prefer them to send them to me because it would be understandable if I didn’t want to go there, and I didn’t. I didn’t say goodbye to any of the great people I met except for one very sweet member of my team who knew what was happening and was very sad about it, I could tell and see. My manager grabbed my bag for me and said she put the picture of my family that I had on my desk inside it.

My manager, who treated me like a friend, was so kind and understanding and looked like she wanted to help me, became this cold and distant person who just wanted me to leave. Although I could swear that for one moment she looked compassionate or sad for me, it was only for a moment. I understand she had to be professional, but I felt lonely and desperate.

1 month ago I was praising how understanding this company was with my motherhood (TO CLARIFY HERE, I WAS NOT LATE OR LEAVING EARLY OR MISSING WORK AND BLAMING IT ON MOTHERHOOD. BEFORE STARTING THERE I NEGOTIATED MY WORKING HOURS BECAUSE I HAD TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER, AND THEY HIRED ME BEING OK WITH THAT AND IT WAS NEVER AN ISSUE). Now I am here, I am so sad, I can’t sleep. I think this is the most I’ve ever suffered over losing a job because I still can’t believe I don’t have it anymore and because I really thought I could grow there. I was so happy that the job hunt was over in a great place, and now I am back to where I was before, only now I am even more heartbroken and I don’t believe in myself anymore. I can’t believe I won’t go to work tomorrow, I don’t have a job anymore, I can’t believe it.

Edit 1: Thank you so much for all the kind words. You are all right, bosses are not our friends and I was naive even though I am a grown woman.

Edit 2: I regret getting emotional and “begging for explanations“, I was going through a hard time emotionally speaking and all pilled up.

Edit 3: I am thank God calmer now, but the impact made me sick and emotional unstable, but I am getting better and as someone said here, pitty party is over, I am getting resumes out there and planning my next steps. Wish all of us the best of luck.

Edit 4: I think I’ve learned a lot from my mistake, I will try to be much more emotional careful and I am thankful for some people I’ve met there and things I’ve learned.

Edit 5: Unfortunately I can’t give names because it’s a startup and I don’t want to be blacklisted as startups are generally the ones who hire me the most.

Edit 6: Tried to fix the grammar mistakes, I am generally very careful with that, but I was very nervous while typing it.

Anyone have kids there? Is it a good school?

How hard is to get a Kindergarten spot? Is it very heavy in the religion side of education? Do I need to be a practice Christian? (and if yes, catholic or any kind of Christian?) Anybody has feedbacks about it?

Anyone has kids in the catholic elementary school our lady of mercy? My daughter is still 3, but I want to enroll her there when she goes to Kinttergarden and I would love to know the process. Do I have to join the parish? If yes, how? (I was raised catholic, have my baptism and first communion, but don`t really practice it and my husband is not catholic at all)
