Ik heb dit jaar courgette gezaaid en ik weet het nu zeker: één plant is echt genoeg geloof me. Ik had er drie, en vanaf half juli lag er elke dag een courgette van een halve meter op de keukentafel. Mijn collega's, de buren en de postbode hebben er allemaal een gehad. Inmiddels groet niemand me meer zonder te vragen of ik nog meer heb. Courgettesoep, courgettekoekjes, courgette in de lasagne.. ja wat kan je er nog meer mee?

Je verslaat de eindbaas, denkt dat je eindelijk klaar bent, en dan kom je erachter dat er ergens nog een optionele boss zit die je compleet sloopt.

Voor mij is Elden Ring een goed voorbeeld. Malenia is officieel niet nodig om de game uit te spelen, maar voor mij voelde ze een stuk moeilijker dan de meeste eindbazen.

Welke game had voor jou zo'n optionele boss?

I used to assume that if I could form a sentence correctly from what I'd learned in a course, I'd sound reasonably natural. Then you start listening to actual conversations and realise people don't always speak in the neat, complete sentences you've been practising.

Maybe it was the vocabulary, shortened words, sentence structure, or just the way people casually respond to each other. What was the first thing you noticed that made you think, "This is definitely not how they taught it in my Dutch lessons"?

Ik ben benieuwd hoeveel verschil goede isolatie in de praktijk maakt voor hoe goed een airco werkt. Online lees je vaak dat een goed geïsoleerd huis sneller op temperatuur komt en de temperatuur ook beter vasthoudt, maar ik ben vooral benieuwd naar ervaringen uit de praktijk.

Heeft iemand zijn huis beter geïsoleerd vóór of ná de installatie van een airco? Merkte je een duidelijk verschil in comfort, energieverbruik of hoe vaak de airco moest draaien? Zou je anderen aanraden om eerst in isolatie te investeren?

Toen ik voor het eerst op mezelf ging wonen, wist ik eigenlijk nog niet zo goed welke spullen de moeite waard waren om in te investeren. Sommige dingen die ik toen kocht, heb ik inmiddels al moeten vervangen, maar een paar spullen zijn met me mee verhuisd en gebruik ik nog steeds.

I've always found it interesting how differently people feel about where they live. Some enjoy the energy, convenience, and endless things to do in a big city, while others prefer the quieter pace and sense of community that often comes with a smaller town.

What would you choose, and why do you think it's the strongest argument?

When people outside the Netherlands think of Dutch food, it's usually stroopwafels, Gouda cheese, or maybe bitterballen. Those are all great, but I'm curious about the dishes that don't get nearly as much attention internationally.

If you could recommend one Dutch food that every visitor should try, what would it be and why? It could be a traditional meal, a snack, a dessert, or even something that's mostly known by locals.
