Soccer Tech Platform Idea Stress Test

I'm building a sports tech platform in Canada and I want honest feedback, even if it's harsh.

The idea and vision: a networking platform for soccer (with the idea to scale to other sports eventually), basically LinkedIn meets Transfermarkt. Players (10+ with parental control from ages 10-15), coaches, agents, and organizations (agencies, media, clubs, etc.) all have vetted profiles. The focus isn't necessarily about going pro, it's about helping players get to the next level, whatever that looks like for them.

Right now if you're a talented kid grinding in a lower rep league trying to move up, there's no real system connecting you to the people who could actually help; you're relying on your club and limited existing network to get trial opportunities at the next level (domestic and abroad). You've got scattered highlight videos, maybe a Hudl or Veo account, an instagram, etc. Nothing ties it together or puts it in front of the right people. There's many platforms in North America that focus on solely college recruiting but nothing beyond that.

Our angle is being the all in one platform. Instead of jumping between five different apps and services (stats tracking, video, agent contacts, networking), it's all in one place, built specifically for soccer with vetted profiles for each user type with the ability to showcase yourself, connect with others for opportunities, and post about yourself and opportunities.

I want to know where this falls apart. Is "all in one" actually a real advantage or does it just mean we do everything a little worse than apps built for one specific thing?

Would a player at a no name club actually get real value from something like this, or is that just not how player development works in reality? Tell me why this fails.

Ask follow up questions to get better understanding of the vision if needed as well!

CTO Needed for Sports Startup

Hey everyone,

I’m a non-technical founder based in Toronto working on an early-stage platform in the sports-tech space and I’m now looking for a CTO / technical co-founder to help us scale to the next stage.

We’re building a player/agent/coach networking and recruiting platform for soccer players, starting in Canada and expanding into the US and eventually globally - like Linkedln for Sports.

My co-founder and I grew up playing soccer and played semi-professional and what we noticed is that there is no clear visibility to agents, coaches and most of the system is still fragmented where a combo of Whatsapp, Linkedln, IG, are used.

We’re trying to change that by building a platform where:

  • Players can showcase themselves in a structured, data-driven way
  • Agents and coaches can actually filter and discover talent efficiently
  • All 3 user types + organizations (e.g., player media agencies, talent agencies, etc.) can connect and interact with each other

We’ve spoken to many coaches, players, organizations, and a few agents and there seems to be strong early signal that this is a real pain point and a value-add in the soccer space in Canada to begin with.

Currently we are:

  • Very early stage
  • Onboarding players, organizations, coaches, and agents
  • In conversations with a data-provider for validated stats to enhance the platform and really sell this to players, agents, and coaches
  • Starting to gain traction through interviews/content in the soccer community

We’re looking for someone who ideally:

  • Wants to be here ideally longterm (CTO)
  • Can own architecture + full-stack development (this is a web-app platform first)
  • Has interest in or curiosity about sports / marketplaces / AI tooling (big plus, not required)
  • Cares about product and user experience, not just code and can iterate fast

This is a great opportunity because:

  • This is a massive global market (sports recruiting is still very inefficient)
  • This is a clear real-world pain point (we’ve validated this directly with players)
  • Early enough stage that a CTO can genuinely shape the entire product + company
  • Equity + co-founder role (not hiring for a job — looking for a partner)

If you’re a builder who’s interested in sports, marketplaces, or early-stage startups and you want to build something from scratch, would love to connect.

Drop a comment or DM me and I’ll share more details about the product, vision, and compensation/sweat equity.
