16.5M, 45 kg / 99 lbs at 174 cm / 5’8.5” — looking for advice
Hey everyone,
I’m 16.5 years old and I’ve been skinny for pretty much my whole life. I recently decided that I want to make a serious change, so I joined the gym about 2–3 weeks ago.
I’m currently around **45 kg (99 lbs) at 174 cm (5’8.5”)**, which I know is quite light. About 5 months ago I was around 41 kg, so I’ve already gained roughly 4 kg, and I want to keep making progress in a healthy way.
I’ve already seen a doctor and was given some medication, so I’m also trying to take this seriously from a health perspective.
I have some basic knowledge about calories, protein, sleep, progressive overload, etc., so I’m mainly looking for advice **beyond the usual “eat more protein and calories” advice.**
What are some things you wish you knew when you were starting out skinny and trying to build muscle/weight?
A few things I’m particularly wondering about:
What mistakes should I avoid as a beginner?
How should I approach training while I’m still quite light?
Are there any habits that made a big difference for you?
How long did it take before you started noticing a real difference?
Is there anything I should prioritize besides calories and protein?
I usually get around **8–8.5 hours of sleep**. Is there anything else I should focus on for recovery?
I’m also wondering about height. I was around **172 cm about 4 months ago and I’m now around 174 cm**. At 16.5, is it realistic that I could still grow taller?
Can being very skinny or not eating enough affect growth during the teenage years?
I’m basically trying to make a big positive change in my life, so I’d really appreciate advice from people who have been through something similar.
Thanks!
