Low Ferritin..Now What?

Sooooo, do we all just live on caffeine until our ferritin goes up??

Any strategies for dealing with the fatigue? Mine is unreal some days. For me it starts strongly around 1pm and a coffee or matcha helps me get through the work day.

Some of my fatigue might be accounted for by perimenopause hormone changes too. But my last ferritin was at a 10.

I realize my iron supplement won't absorb when I'm having caffeine so I am trying to space those out from each other by several hours. Been taking ferrous bisglycinate 25 every other day for a month now.

B12, Folate, and Iron supplement

I need to move my B12 and Ferritin up. My B12 is decent but not optimal and my Ferritin is wildly low,.anywhere from 6 tp 13 in the last year. Have not been supplementing iron consistently at all.

What's the best type of B12 and Folate supplement for us with the mthfr gene? And iron supplement?

Coming off T3 kinda sucks

Has anyone ever had experience stopping T3?

I was prescribed it by my female hormone NP. I took 2.5 mcg in the afternoon then built up to 2.5 mcg each in the morning and afternoon.

When I did this my TSH was at 2.77 and my free T3 was smack in the middle.of the range.

I didn't like the T3, too many ups and downs. I felt like a druggie waiting for my next hit

My endo told me.to stop taking it so I did a few days ago. Since yesterday I've been feeling incredibly warm and anxious. Also have had a nervous stomach feeling on and off. Anyone have experience with this?

It's really shitty.

Back to T4

I've been taking T3 (2.5 mcg) for about 2 weeks and although I like the temporary boost of more energy and thinking clearly, I really do not like the ups and downs of the T3. Even if I split it and take it twice daily, it's hard to time it and it's not steady on my body.

I'm gonna ask my new provider if I can just do just T4 again but increase it a little bit (my current provider wouldn't increase it bc they were treating on tsh only).

Any advice on going off T3 and when to start taking the increase in T4? What was your experience like doing this kind of change, and how long before you started to feel better again?

Taking T3- How/when do you take your dose?

I take 50 mcg of Synthroid daily and was just prescribed 5mg liothyronine to help with my fatigue and some other hypo symptoms.

I've been taking 2.5mg in the early afternoon (since that's usually when my fatigue settles in) and today for the first time im taking the other half in the early evening.

If you break up your doses of T3, when do you take yours?

My provider suggested to take 5mg in the early afternoon but I'm curious if my energy will feel more steady if I split the doses.

I'm confused. Do I need an iron supplement?

So I've had low Ferritin in the past. Didn't get it tested for years. Last year it was at a 7, earlier this year, at a 9 and now it's at a 13 after taking 25mg of Iron approximately every other day for 2 months. 2 providers told me to start taking iron.

I actually think I feel worse taking an iron supplement. More spacey and dizzy.

My question is, how do I know my body even needs extra iron supplements when my total iron levels are always fine, my hemoglobin and hemocratit are almost always above range (all of my life actually), IBC and % saturation are fine, and my mcv is fine. Rbc and wbc are totally normal. My RBC is almost above range too.

Actually, all of my labs, except ferritin, are fantastic. The only recommendation was to take B12 to make it more optimal.

Is this hypothyroid or something else?

I just got a bunch of blood work done and below are my results. Are these decent numbers or am I trending hypo? Been taking Synthroid for 10 years after a partial thyroidectomy.

I'm exhausted a lot this year, especially the second half of the day unless I nap and/or have caffeine. I'm also currently being tested for HRT for possible perimenopause stuff.

TSH 2.77

Free T3 3.3 (2.3-4.2)

Free T4 1.3 (0.8 - 1.8)

T3 Reverse 14 (8-25)

Thyroglobulin Antibodies <2 (range is < or = to 2)

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES <1 (range is <9)

Did Perimenopause change the effectiveness of your antidepressant?

I've (46f) been taking sertraline (generic for Zoloft) for probably close to 20 years.

When I was young with some severe anxiety, I got up to 100mg. Much of my 20s and 30s I was taking 75mg or 50mg. Had a few months and years break 2 or 3 times where I took none. But I've been taking 25mg now for at least 10 years.

My anxiety has seemingly increased this year. I'm getting all of my hormones tested with a new female provider so I'll know soon what they are recommending if any HRT. I have many perimeno symptoms.

For anyone who has been taking ssri's for years, have you to change your dose because of perimenopause?

And if so, for you increase or decrease the antidepressant?

Pressure in front of Neck

Has anyone else experienced the light but annoying pressure in the front of the neck where the thyroid is? And what is this?

I've had it previously on and off,but lately it seems like almost daily. It's stressful :/

I take 50 mcg of Synthroid and had a partial thyroidectomy 12 years ago.

Whole 30 as a Pescatarian

Has anyone ever combined Pescatarian eating with the legumes for their own W30 mix? I know you're supposed to do straight vegetarian (with the legumes) or the meat (i.e. seafood for me) W30 and not do them together. I did a seafood only W30 years ago and I was SO sick of seafood and vegetable meals by week 4.

I'm currently Pescatarian but don't eat seafood everyday.
