So, I began reading "The Pale King"

I have previously read "The Broom of The System" and a couple of DFW's short stories and essays, which I truly was enamoured by. I loved watching his interviews, and all of his work so I thought to give "The Pale King" a try (I'm doing this in an attempt to build myself up to "Infinite Jest") and I'm only near enough 50 pages in, but it's becoming increasingly more and more difficult to find enjoyment whilst reading it. I understand that a large motif of the book is boredom, and that's the point; but it's not even just the "boring" sections I find a lack enthusiasm for. I don't really want to stop reading it because I love DFW's writing, and the actual idea behind "The Pale King" is one I especially find interesting, but I am finding little to no pleasure from reading the book. For the people who have read it, is it worth finishing now, or should I put it on the shelf to go back to in a couple of years?

Gift ideas

Hey all! Me and my English teacher are rather close, and we have bonded over shared interest in literature and cinema. His favourite director is David Lynch (who was actually the person my teacher did his dissertation on), I’d love to buy him something Lynch related before I leave. (I’ll be back in September for sixth form, but y’know)

I was looking at the art book (I assume? I apologise, I’m not very familiar with Lynch’s work, although his surrealist style absolutely speaks to me) which was entitled “Someone Is In My House” which would have been perfect, but it’s unfortunately far out of my price range. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Advice in creating a gift?

Hey all! I’m not sure if you get these kind of posts on this subreddit, but some backstory before I begin:

Me and my girlfriend both struggle with our mental health due to personal issues and diagnoses, we’re both on medication but sometimes we still go through specific episodes. And due to this mutual understanding of the others’ mental state; we attempt to let the other one know what it is that’s going on with us, and we do our best to comfort and be there for the other person. Now, my partner has been in the worst episode I think I’ve ever seen her in for a while now and I was thinking of doing a collage of albums type of thing to (attempt to)!cheer her up. Where in an ideal world there would be three of them, one being a collage of “songs” by Adrianne Lenker, the other “In Rainbows” by Radiohead (two of some of her favourite albums) and “Blonde on Blonde” by Bob Dylan (which is one of my favourite albums) and on each collage would be separate lyrics from the album that remind me of her. The point of this would be to remind her of how others perceive her and such, as she struggles grasping concepts like that. But I’m not entirely sure on how to do this. Should I do it on a laptop, edit all three together and print them off when I can, or do I try and spend this weekend doing a homemade version (which I think would be a lot nicer) and if the latter; then how do I do this, and start?

I thank anyone who offers advice for this dilemma I’m having, I apologise if this isn’t the typical forte for the subreddit, but I’m appreciative nonetheless 🙏
