Newbie

I’m sorry if this question has been answered hundreds of times but I’m somewhat new to camping/glamping. My wife and I started pitching a tent with our 2 daughters last summer. We have a bunch of dates booked this year. I’m not currently in the market for anything but I can definitely see us getting a camper or RV in the future. I want to kind of dial in what would be a good entry level rig for a family of our size. We’re expecting another kiddo at the end of summer so it would be the 5 of us and our 2 dogs. Im honestly not sure what my budget would be because I don’t know what the going price of things are but I can tell you right now I definitely would not spend more than 25k at least not for my first rig, maybe 15k max tbh. I would love to hear everyone’s suggestions and advice. Like I said I’m not buying anytime soon but I enjoy browsing market place and online inventory for when the day comes.

Negotiating

Apologies for the long story but I’m currently car shopping. 3rd kid on the way with a ford escape and my Chevy just failed inspection for a rotted frame…

I looked at a 2023 Pacifica select with 39k miles in Maine last Saturday. The van has a bunch of upgrades from the factory. For example a built in vacuum (hose missing), a 360 camera in the back to watch the kiddos, the entertainment system in the 2nd row and the tow package. The vehicle was bought and had scheduled maintenance done at the same dealership that’s currently selling the vehicle. The dealership also offers a 10 year 100k warranty from day of manufacturing. They’re asking $36,400 so just about what it books for

Knowing Chryslers reputation I was very thorough with the whole look over and test drive. I noticed a small noise when accelerating and asked the sales rep to have their mechanics look at it on Monday. The manager of course gave me his shpeel and promised if I bought it that day, they would fix it if a problem arose. I told him I’d just wait until their mechanics look at it and he backed off. They found the issue and it was something Chrysler put a bulletin out for (loose axel nut)

Anyways I want to negotiate the price but I don’t want to throw out a bullshit number. The van had dog hair on the carpeted parts, a small tear in the third row seat, the hose vacuum was missing, 2 accidents reported with no damage and it’s been on the lot for 2 months. I know it’s not major but I definitely want to haggle. I’m not sure how to calculate taxes and fees but does anyone have any advice on what they would offer?

Recommendations/Advice

3rd child due in September. The Wife and I made the decision to shop for a minivan instead of a full size SUV for many reasons. We have a budget of $40,000 and have $4,000 to put down. We live on the south coast of Maine and a AWD Van is a non negotiable. This leaves my options to either a Pacifica or Sienna. I’ve found nothing but negative reviews about the Pacificas poor reliability. I’ve also found that Siennas are very pricey and hard to come by. For example a used Sienna within a 100 miles from me is roughly 38-40k with 70,000 miles on it (2020 and newer)….this has made my van shopping experience very difficult and I’m at the point where I’m completely stressed out with the decision I have to make( I know I know boohoo). Please give me advice and/or guidance. It would be greatly appreciated for anyone who’s shared a similar experience. Side note there’s a dealer near me that has Pacifica’s new and used that come with a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. I’m question if a Pacifica would be worth the risk with a warranty like this? Thank you in advance.

Advice/venting

Is this a decent deal?

I’ve been in the market for a sienna for the past 6 months give or take. I have 2 kids with a 3rd on the way. 2 dogs as well. We live in Maine and require AWD. I’ve had an extremely difficult time trying to find a decent deal on one of these and with my daughter due in a couple months I’m losing patience on waiting for the right deal. I understand it’s common and I’m not the only one. My personal truck also failed inspection last week due to the frame being rotted so we’re down to just my wife’s Escape. I’m getting fed up with scrolling 6 different search engines and looking at the same vehicles everyday hahaha does anyone have advice on what to look for or maybe advice on what I should do?

After a long painful search for a larger vehicle for my growing family I believe I found the one. I live in Maine and trying to find a fairly priced used car is ridiculous. Either rusted or over priced. I’m planning to drive 1.5 hours to go check this out. Is this a deal or is this too much? Thanks in advance.

Is this price completely unjustifiable? Or is this ball park of what other people are paying?

I’m expecting my 3rd child in September. I also have 2 dogs. My vehicle is a crew crab service body. I use it for work and to pick up my kids but we typically use my wife’s ford escape for everything else. We live in Maine and require a vehicle reliable in snow and mud. I’ve been searching for a vehicle since last summer but am just discouraged by how expensive used vehicles are now. My search consist of siennas, sequoias, Tahoe’s and Yukons. They all seem to be very overpriced(at least in my area). The clock is ticking and I need to find a vehicle soon. Sorry for the book.
