App Name

Quick question - I’m a driver and have been doing this for 2.5 years - and am building a financial/ client tracking app for myself and potentially other rideshare drivers. Which name feels more like something you’d trust with your income?

DriveWise

Or

DriveNest

Be honest. Thank you guys in advance!

Water sloshing > coolant pump failure > engine replacement - 2019 Insight EX

Just wanted to share my experience with my 2019 Honda Insight in case it helps another owner catch this issue earlier than I did.

The very first symptom I noticed during winter was a “water sloshing” sound coming from behind the dashboard, especially during acceleration or turns. When I looked it up online, a lot of people mentioned either:

  • coolant/air in cooling system issues or
  • A/C-related causes.

Since I had already replaced the A/C compressor previously, I assumed it was probably related to the air conditioning system and decided to wait until summer to investigate it further.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake.

Over time, the car eventually developed cooling system/emissions warnings and ultimately a blown head gasket with coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders. The dealership confirmed coolant seepage internally after inspection/borescope testing.

At first I explored:

  • head gasket replacement,
  • resurfacing,
  • and repair quotes,

but because of labor costs and the risk of further engine issues, I ultimately decided to replace the engine entirely with a lower-mileage used motor. I went to a non-city place that did it for $4,600 - every city place quoted $7,000+.

A few things I learned from the experience:

  • Honda apparently recommends a coolant pump replacement after 100,000 miles (news to me!)
  • Don’t ignore persistent sloshing water sounds behind the dash, especially if coolant levels fluctuate at all.
  • Even if the car still drives “normally,” coolant intrusion can already be happening slowly.
  • Pay attention to any combination of:
    • coolant loss,
    • rough startup,
    • intermittent overheating,
    • emissions warnings,
    • or strange heater behavior.
  • If you suspect head gasket issues, getting the system pressure tested or inspected early may save the engine.

I’m posting this because I initially thought the sound was harmless/A.C.-related and didn’t realize it could point to cooling system problems developing in the background.

Hopefully this helps another Insight owner catch something early before it turns into a major repair like mine did.

I drive Uber in DC and decided to hand out flowers to moms today. Ended up making one of my best Sundays ever.

I drive Uber/Lyft full-time in Washington, DC, and this morning I had an idea for Mother’s Day.

I bought:

  • 12 roses
  • 6 tulips

and decided to hand one out to mothers during rides throughout the day.

I originally thought it might just help with tips a little bit. But the bigger thing was how much it changed the energy of the day.

People smiled immediately when they got in the car. Some took pictures. Some told me about their kids or their own moms. A few got emotional. One airport passenger tipped me an extra $20 after I gave her a flower.

By the end of the day:

  • ~$440 earned
  • $62 in tips
  • ~11 hours worked
  • only ~2.5 gallons of gas used (hybrid)
  • about $40/hour overall

I’ve been experimenting lately with staying inside DC and focusing on shorter rides instead of long suburban trips, and it’s been way more efficient on gas and mentally less exhausting.

But honestly the best part of today wasn’t even the money. It was that the day felt human instead of transactional.

Driving rideshare can sometimes feel isolating and repetitive, and this reminded me that small gestures really do change people’s moods — including my own.

Anyway, Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there 🌷
