My son blows my mind: he built a cyberdeck for his DnD group

He is so amazing. Asked me for random parts over the past few months to go with his raspberry pi 5 we got him for Christmas.

I built the scaffold of a DnD site idea I had so his friend and he could all get notified when things happen in their campaign. My idea was a code based system so any kid with a browser could join the campaign and we don’t log anyone’s personal info. He took it and RAN with it.

It has culminated in this: a cyberdeck he built that runs LoreKeeper (our software, I didn’t know about Lorekeeper.com when I named it) and does all kinds of things. It uses an onboard LLM using Ollama to generate NPCs and other things. He’s bringing it to DnD club in Friday. Did I mention he’s 14? I had zero hand in any of this other than setting up the initial site and handing it over to him on GitHub.

They took a while but were worth it

I preordered the spring one in May, then later the study sessions one came out and I preordered it too. Apparently if you do that, they don’t ship your order until both are ready, I assume to keep costs down since these come from France. They were worth it though, the records are so heavy, feel very solid and sound crystal clear.

I'm back with more crafts my daughter has made

Some might remember this post with the Y'shtola doll I put up a while back. I'm back with a new one but it deserves some backstory.

Waaay back in the FFXI days, I met a lot of great friends in my Linkshell LootWhorinDramaFest. Two of them ended up getting married even. We've kept touch through the years and we've visited them and they have visited us. We even went to Hawaii together to celebrate my 15th wedding anniversary.

Now my daughter is 21 and she plays FFXIV too. She loves the story, characters, and world as much as I do. She is going to be a senior in college this year and planned a trip to go visit my friends with her friend and hang out with them for the week. She wanted to make them something as a thank you. She had me gather pictures of their characters and created them using crochet, polymer clay, and other medium.

It's one of my favorite things about this game, how it's created so many great relationships for me and given me things to bond with her over.

Could anyone help me out here?

Got this a few weeks ago, watered twice so far, both times I tested to make sure the soil is dry before watering again. This whiteness creeping up the side has shown up in the past few days.

Bike path problems

Why are so many people walking on the wrong side of the path? It was incredible how many people were on the oncoming traffic side today.

Also I really wish the city would do something about where the path crosses Old Cheney. If someone is in the middle part they are not in the cross walk and cars shouldn’t stop. I will stand there and ignore before I try to cross, both lanes rarely stop anyway and you’re gonna get someone killed if you stop. I spoke with LTU and they told me if someone is in the median area they are not in the crosswalk because there are no zebra stripes there. Also the bike path traffic have a stop sign so you don’t have to stop if they haven’t started crossing yet.

Pic courtesy of the elderly lady that apparently doesn’t care that a bike is in the crosswalk and wants to blow a stop sign (this was near the Cooper YMCA). She was making eye contact with me the entire time so I thought she saw me and was going to stop.

Back with more crafts from my daughter, Father’s Day Edition

Kiddo made me a chocobo but I think it looks a lot like Alpha. She hasn’t done those yet, but I told her we should run them so she knows who Alpha is ❤️

Happy Father’s Day to any dads out there and hugs for those of you who don’t have good ones to give you hugs and tell you they’re proud of you.

Adding Y’shtola to the list of cool things my daughter has made me for FFXIV

It’s my birthday soon and my daughter has been very busy working on _something_ and now I get to see what. She sculpted the head, earrings and other feathers and the staff and crocheted the rest. She said she’s not happy with the head and wants to redo it but I think it’s incredible ❤️

Made an app for FFXIV that works with the old Razer Switchblade/Deathstalker/Blade stuff

Waaaaay back in the day, I applied for the Razer developer program and they mailed me this Switchblade dev kit. I messed with it for a while but never made anything super cool with it. It has sat in a draw for well over a decade I think.

Recently I have been tinkering with it. I accidentally bricked it at one point and got to experiment with EEPROM programming and chip flashing to un-brick it and work on some custom firmware for it since it's definitely not supported (it seems none of the Deathstalker series are supported by Razer officially anymore).

This thing lets you swap jobs, including gathering jobs, includes mining/botany nodes by expansion and zone (tells you nearest aetheryte etc), fishing holes and catch criteria etc, shortcuts to emotes, glamor plates, recipes for crafter jobs including tying in to the raphael-rs solver and will load the macros it generates into your clipboard for you so you can paste them into macros in game, mounts and minions, etc. Still a couple of buttons left for ideas but I'm out of new ones for now. None of this uses any plugins or other hacks, everything it does is straight in the chat/text box in game. The only thing it does is looks for the DirectX process to determine if the game is focused or not.

I'm planning to open source the driver work I've done on this at the very least. I want to get a Deathstalker keyboard to mess with so I can make sure it works with those, and then I will probably release the source for the app itself as well. The app uses Razer's official SDK for Switchblade so it's safe to use, my bricking was from me trying to flash the firmware on this thing to get some additional functionality that was not originally possible.

My first resin print, this model is why I got a resin printer

My daughter painted it for me. We learned a lot on this test run and I’m going to do a much bigger model on my big resin printer. Credit for the model goes to nympha3d on Cults. If they ever do a Y’shtola I will have to buy that one too. My daughter would murder for a G’raha 😅
