Should I write a book?
I’m 16 years old and I don’t know if I should write a book (or attempt to) of a world that I haven’t finished and still planning.
I do have ideas of how it would work though and even have an idea of what it the plot would be.
It would be set in a fortress nestled in the mountains in the northern fringes of the empire. It will become besieged by an opposing army who have united in attempts to force the empire out. It is besieged by an army of 7,000 strong who must capture the fortress to allow a bigger army of 15,000 (that is being mobilised) to march through, as the fortress holds a choke point of a mountain pass which stops the enemy from passing. Meanwhile, a legion of 5,000 would be sent by the empire to break the siege, but due to the remoteness of the fortress, it would take 6-8 months to get there.
I believe that these things make both parties desperate to win on time and pushes the narrative as it will the enemy to lead desperate attacks to take the fortress before the legion comes and forces the garrison to make dangerous counter attacks to buy them more time or break the enemy forces entirely.
New fantasy King trope for your worlds!!!
A king nobody like (lords, church, etc) but they still support him and would even fight for him because they need the status quo he created which has kept them in power, so if he died or lost control - the very system that keeps them in power collapses.
I believe this would be an interesting concept because it shows that the King has to rely others to keep him in power and the king keeps them in power which creates a loop where the system keeps feeding itself. Showing how delicate and fragile the system really is.
Should I focus on one world or both?
Currently I have two ideas on very different fictional worlds.
One is a fantasy world where there is an empire on a tilting edge that dominates the continent but is cracking from the inside from rival houses and bitter squabbles as they forget what the empire once stood for and dominated by a religion that believes that gods grant them their magic, but the dwarves from the their northern mountain fortresses invent a new material (gunpowder) to help mine for precious minerals, which will soon become introduced into the empire from their trade will soon shatter the empire into a million pieces but is held back by the religion who try desperately to keep their way of life and dominion over the continent.
The other is a sci-fi universe set in the solar system -300 years in the future- after an alien civilisation enslaved humanity, destroying populated cities and resettling people to more ore rich areas of earth and to other planets throughout the solar system. Now after the aliens were kicked out after a bloody revolution, earth and mars have been stripped dry of resources and the unity they once had for each other has now shattered and their’ desperate grab for resources and domination over the solar system has left them dead-locked in a stagnant cold war that has left outer planets and kaiper belt to be exploited by both sides.
Is being depressed which gives me brain fog the reason why I struggle to focus on the things I want to focus on?
For years I’ve been struggling with depression and suicide and it given me brain fog. Is it the reason why I struggle with building up my fantasy/sci fi worlds and I’m not as devoted to them as I like to be?
