Confused if VM with docker or LXC would be better for my current needs

Specs: i5 12500, 16gb ram, 256gb nvme

So I was really struggling if I wanted to do Debian/Ubuntu or proxmox as main is but with backups and future upgrades and probably moving to it later I've heavily leaned into proxmox now

But now looking into it and learning about LXC vs VM I'm confused which to use, and still unsure how isolated/secure LXC is to a VM

My first project is going to be an online Minecraft server for me and some friends through crafty controller, followed by adguard/pihole, immich and then probably a few other things later down the line like Jellyfin etc.

When looking into Ubuntu it was clear to just use containers for everything, but now for proxmox would I want to use an LXC for each or just a docker VM with all those things in it

Considering my Minecraft server is online I would like it to be completely isolated from other things, and keep everything separated

Been around reddit talking, trying to learn differences or needs for certain OS for my pc Im using as a server

This is my first home server, So rn I have a i5 12500, 16gb ram, 256gb nvme (planning to add 1-2tb hdd for file storage/backups), may upgrade the nvme, I wasn't sure if 256 is fine for now or if I should just try find one higher asap

And I kept bouncing around talks about different OS mainly Debian, Ubuntu, proxmox and most recently recommended TrueNAS
I was mostly thinking either proxmox or Ubuntu

I'm just curious what the pros and cons are of something like proxmox vs Ubuntu with docker, had the thought that I could just run a VM in proxmox of Ubuntu that way anything goes wrong I can just have the backup and restore

My needs for it rn my main project will be a minecraft server and have that running and stable, then after that I plan to do adguard or pihole, immich, jellyfin etc.

I had a question about Proxmox vs Ubuntu

So basically Ive been trying o decide what to build my first server on and while looking into both, no one really talks in posts I've found like, whats the pros vs cons of just running an Ubuntu VM in proxmox for added security and organization?

Vs just running ubuntu with docker

Pc acquired, now just trying to plan out my final choices before jumping into making my server

So I was able to get a pc with an I5 12500, 8gb ram (swapping for my own 16gb) and a 256gb nvme

My main goal is doing a heavy or plentiful modpack (probably around 300-400 mods) on Java for 5 friends max on at the same time, that I can have running 24/7 for whenever we wanna play

This is my first server hosting anything myself, I've been doing a lot of research before hand and still had some topics like OS, docker, amp/crafty, etc. I wanted advice on so I can do more research and then start getting to work

First was should 256gb nvme be fine for starting out? Or look for a 500gb-1tb nvme/ just get a hard drive for more storage for backing it up and other applications in the future, not familiar with server size usually

Second, I had recommendations for Debian or Ubuntu previously and after looking into both I was planning to do it on Ubuntu server for my OS but looking more into guides and reading, would it be worth me doing Proxmox instead and setting up a VM of Ubuntu, since I plan on possibly adding other applications like immich, or jellyfin?

Or would Ubuntu with docker be a better option, I've read that security wise Proxmox is great and since it's vms if you mess up you can just kill and start over

(I saw some stuff about casaOS or zimaOS too but unsure about them at all)
Seeing all these different posts and guides about which way to go just makes me unsure what fits my needs best

And then there's amp vs crafty, Ive read that crafty is better for heavy modpacks and overall just more up to date than amp for Minecraft now days so was leaning more towards crafty
And had planned to use playit for external connection, I am not familiar enough or confident for port forwarding and tailscale seemed overkill for 1 small friends server

New to Ubuntu, what's the best or preferred GUI/Dashboard?

So new to Linux but want to use Ubuntu server for my setup I got for mainly hosting Minecraft servers, and in the future immich, etc.

I'm not tech illiterate so can learn as I go but visuals do help me more than just text so I was wondering what GUI or dashboard to use

I see a lot recommend and don't know the differences or which one would fit for my needs currently

I've seen suggestions like cockpit, webmin, landscape, grafana, Prometheus

Looking for a small pc like a thinkstation or mini pc that can hold a i5-12400f

So trying to get a hold on a i5-12400f, and trying to determine if I buy the whole pc or get smaller mini pc to be able to use it, as I'm using this for minecraft server hosting, media storage etc.

Does anyone know of some motherboards in lets say lenovo thinkstations, or other smaller pcs that could work? I'm decent with tech but don't know my motherboards at all

Doesn't need to be new, would rather get something cheap off ebay if I can

Add on to previous post about cpus after looking some more

So before I was looking towards a i5 9th or 10th series for a heavy modpack of 200-400 mods server with my 5-7 friends (obviously not on max settings, but running smooth with preloaded chunks)

After reading I see some recommend i3 10th gen over 8-9th i5 cpus

And new to server hosting/self hosting so I'm unsure which is better for my needs vs typical gaming

Anyone experience problems with mouthwash?

Started using a new mouthwash (Therabreath anti cavity) and was curious if anyone has issues or a preference on mouth wash brand or type with recommendations?

I tried one in the past years ago that I thought upset me so stayed away but wasn't 100% sure

Need help deciding where to start with which OS

So been watching a lot of yt and reading through Reddit the last few days but still can't decide where to start with OS

For reference this is my first time setting up a Minecraft server in a few weeks so trying to get all info I can now, but see the heavy debate of Devian, Ubuntu, or proxmox when choosing OS

I plan to mainly setup a Minecraft server using crafty in a container on docker (saw amp recommend but people say crafty is easier for Minecraft and handles modpacks better)

I guess my main question is which OS should I plan to use, knowing down the line I'll add more stuff than just the Minecraft server, such as plex/jellyfin, storage backup, immich etc.

Or what the pro/cons of each with starting with them

Are those Intel work stations or desktops on eBay/Facebook still good for a modded Minecraft server of 5-8 people

So been wanting to setup a server and I have an extra 16gb ddr4 ram sticks I been saving
Now I'm mainly just looking for the cpu/storage and new to this still

I see people recommend just getting one of those mini pc or workstation and upgrading that, and I know mc really only needs a single core cpu

My questions mainly are is it fine to grab one of those if it has the correct CPU? Or nowadays am I looking to just get a high quality CPU and build from that

Help with understanding where to start

Okay for context I'm new to self hosting and mainly for now I wanted to setup a Minecraft server, possibly expand to photos/movies too in the future, but main goal is modded Minecraft to play with friends

I plan to either buy a cheap workstation pc, or use a old laptop

I'm new to Ubuntu, docker etc. but not tech illiterate, I'm more confused on which path to take, or how to get where I want, I know I should start by running Ubuntu on the device

I see people recommend CasaOs with crafty, but I also see people recommend running the server in a docker container to secure it, are the like separate things? Or can you use casa os docker etc. together?(I'm also confused on best way to secure it to protect my home network, I've seen port forwarding, tailscale, twingate, or through vpns)

I've looked into docker some rn but I was also wondering are there options for good visual guidance/clients to use docker through (I understand better with visual images and such)

If anyone can point me in some direction of guides or posts to get started I'd greatly appreciate it

I'm just looking for best way for a long-term setup Minecraft server, that I can add mods/modpacks, play with friends and secure it safely

Question about trying Linzess

So for reference I used to have ibs mixed and was on colestipol so long it turned it more into ibs c now
My current bowel movement is every other day, and starts off with a normal amount followed by 3-6 hours of straining and pushing every 10-20 minutes until I finally clear it all

My Dr really thinks Linzess will help turn that 6 hour bathroom trip to a shorter one, I'm curious is it better to wait 1-2 hours or 30 minutes like it says

Also I'm currently able to only do a 12 day sample pack because my insurance is blocking my prescription yay! :D

Also I was planning to get some blood work done, should I try to schedule it before this 12 day trial run of Linzess or after? I usually try to schedule stuff on my off bowel movement days and worried starting Linzess and stopping randomly may mess up my current somewhat okay schedule
