Hello, I recently bought the 2015 4 runner 170k miles for a great price under 10k but it has an issue.
When I’m driving at 25-50mph the transmission shudders. At higher speeds 65-70 it doesn’t seem to have a problem. From researching it seems to be the torque converter and not a bad transmission. The thing is from looking at the maintenance records, it looks like the transmission has never been serviced so I don’t want to flush it. Would it be safe to do a drain and fill? I bought all the stuff from Amazon and the shudderfix to do it but would it be worth it just to get the torque converter replaced for the price I bought it at.
Just want to know if it’s safe to do a drain and fill with dropping the pan? Knowing that the transmission has never been serviced. I am going to be using oem Toyota trans fluid but not the oem transmission filter and gasket because it’s way to expensive for oem.
Also by doing the drain and fill and than adding shudderfix am I just masking an issue that will come back down the line?
It’s seems to be about 2.5k for the torque converter replacement would it be worth it for the price I got it at to just replace it.
My plan is to do the drain and fill with adding shudder fix and than if that doesn’t work fix the torque converter.
Thank you for your help.
