is minegraph.cn a legit site?

soo i found out iterationT shader is only distributed through this site, minegraph.cn, instead of curseforge/modrinth like most shaders. never heard of it before so wanted to ask around.

from what i can tell so far it looks like an cn minecraft shader community platform, site's got a proper structure to it (changelogs, compatibility tags for optifine/iris/oculus, gpu vendor tags etc), shows 373k+ downloads on the shader version i grabbed,.

just never used a cn-hosted site before so wanted to ask if anyone here's familiar with it / used it themselves.

Can shaders like this actually have a virus or something?

So I found these two shaders and wanted to ask if they’re safe to use.

I already scanned both ZIPs with VirusTotal and got 0 detections, but I’m still kinda paranoid lol. Can a shaderpack like this actually contain a virus/malware, or is it generally safe as long as it’s just shader files like in the screenshots??

The two shaders are:

Is Liminal Spaces by Designio safe to download? Also curious if anyone's played it

Before downloading this from Patreon (screenshot attached), I wanted to check if anyone here has used it before. Mainly because the project includes a custom .jar mod and isn't distributed directly through CurseForge or Modrinth.

I originally found this project after watching a video from ThatMob, a pretty large Minecraft YouTuber with 2M+ subscribers. The project looked really good in the video, which is what made me interested in trying it: https://youtu.be/8iZIiHfmxeo?si=RYiva61QMNSO5kr0

For context, the creator appears to be the same Designio account that makes projects like ModernArch (687K+ downloads on Modrinth) and Liminal Houses, so they already seem to have an established track record. That definitely gives me some reassurance, but I wanted to double-check with the community before running the mod.

A few things I'm curious about:

  • Has anyone scanned the mod/files with VirusTotal or another security tool?
  • Has anyone actually installed and played it without any security issues?
  • Has anyone inspected the mod or noticed any unusual behavior or network activity?
  • And for anyone who's played it, is the 512x version worth getting compared with the free 128x version?

Links:

I'm not saying the mod is unsafe. I'm just trying to verify it before running a third-party .jar.

Appreciate any input from people who have actually used or analyzed it!

How risky is it to publish a browser extension for a site like nhentai?

I've been working on a small browser extension for personal use that helps automate downloading entries from a user's nhentai favorites.

The extension doesn't host, mirror, or redistribute any content itself. It simply interacts with pages the user already has access/open to through their browser.

The thing I'm unsure about is whether publishing it would just end up creating more problems than it's worth.

I remember seeing a somewhat similar project get hit with a DMCA takedown in the past (I think it may have involved Fakku, but I'm not entirely sure), so that made me a bit cautious.

A few questions:

  1. How likely is a GitHub repository for something like this to receive a DMCA notice?
  2. Has anyone here published similar browser extensions before?
  3. Would Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons be likely to reject an extension like this?
  4. Anything I should be aware of before putting something like this out there?

Curious to hear what people think.

Anyone here using the Icons resource pack?

I found the Icons resource pack on Modrinth and it looks really nice. It has a lot of downloads, but surprisingly I couldn't find many Reddit posts talking about it.

Has anyone here used it? Any issues or concerns with it, or is it generally considered safe/trustworthy by the community?

I'm probably overthinking this, but I'd appreciate some opinions before installing it.

how do you tell if a mod is trustworthy?

So I finally decided to give Minecraft mods a try.

To be honest, I've been going back and forth on it for a while because I'm pretty paranoid about malware and accidentally downloading something sketchy. After doing a lot of research, I eventually worked up the courage to install the Modrinth app/launcher and start looking for mods.

My question is: how do you guys usually determine whether a mod is safe or not?

Is looking at the download count enough, or are there other things I should check as well? For example:

  • number of downloads
  • how long the mod has been around
  • reputation of the developer
  • open-source code availability
  • community feedback/comments

I'd also appreciate recommendations for mod vanilla and developers or authors that are generally well-known and trusted within the Minecraft community.

Sorry if this sounds overly paranoid. I'm just trying to learn good safety practices before I start installing a bunch of mods.
