This chapter was sad in so many ways.

Most obviously, for xaden. He sees the new life and family his mom created without thinking twice about him for the last 13 years. Her love for him wasn’t enough to withstand the lack of freedom that apparently came with a contractual agreement like hers and Fen’s. He sees two boys get the maternal affection he’s been missing since he was 10 and it has to sting even more that he has two half brothers that don’t even know he exists. After throwing digs at her throughout dinner, he sees the chocolate cake actually WANTS to give her another chance. He wants to eat the cake because even the fact that she REMEMBERED it was his favourite was more than he had ever expected of her. Only to find out it was poisoned by her husband. He leaves without any closure- and if anything, on worse terms than before.

Obviously this is sad enough but then there are moments of violet’s trauma that also peek through. After seeing Talia run towards her boys, the ONLY thing she can relate that kind of concern to is from her sister. Not even her mother. “She pulls back and gives them the same once-over I usually earn from Mira after a battle.”
Moreover she’s watching the love of her life actually express sadness for probably the first time in their relationship. She relates his situation to her own mother which also has to be hard since i doubt they talk about her often- given what she cost xaden.

“Because my mother just died.” He stills, and regret instantly washes over his face. “I’m sorry, Violet.” “You don’t need to be. I’m just saying that I’m not the person to ask if you should spend a night talking to yours, because I would give anything for ten minutes with mine.” I set my hand over my chest like it has a prayer of holding the grief inside where it belongs.”

I doubt she ever wanted comfort from him after she died because she probably doesn’t even want her occupying xaden’s mind anymore. She knows and resents what lilith did to him. But with that empathy, it also means violet hasn’t grieved at all. she hasn’t spoken to anyone about it, which means it’s all gonna come out in the next book probably.

Just thought it was notable how depressing this chapter was for everyone lol.

I saw that Inde said her dream role was to play violet from fourth wing. And given that Micheal B. Jordan (who is producing the series) followed her on instagram, do we think she’s gonna be violet for real?

I feel like she’d be perfect for the role so I hope it’s her 🤞

is it possible to major in architecture and minor in arts ? if so, what would the work load look like and has anyone on this sub ever done it? or knows someone who has?

I am starting as an architecture major at Columbia in the fall (and developed an architecture portfolio that was also accepted to Cornell AAP) but i’ve always been interested in fashion as well. However, I’ve found that there aren’t any fashion courses at Columbia.

I wanted to know if it’s possible for me to make a fashion portfolio even though i haven’t been taught it. I have skills such as drawing, painting, embroidering, model making, and stitching. I believe I also have an eye for aesthetics and consider myself to be quite creative.

If so, where do I start? I have ideas for pieces but I don’t know where to start and what exactly a rookie fashion portfolio should contain- like what elements. PSA i want to develop this as a supplement to my future resume, not necessarily find jobs IN fashion. Maybe an architecture-to-fashion pipeline kind of career.

Last year I received a $2000 start up grant for freshman year. However, in my aid package, they said that sophomore year onwards, I would have to have a work study arrangement instead.

I was then deferred for a year so I never enrolled or completed a college year (I’m arriving this fall as a freshman now).

I was told that my aid package this year would be similar to last year’s based on my FAFSA and that my start-up grant would be restored to me this year.

However I’m confused as to whether this year, they will expect work study from me? Even though I’ve never attended Columbia yet and am arriving as a freshman but still… they might create my financial aid package as a second year student… does anyone know if i’ll still get the first year privileges of that grant or whether i’ll have to give it in work study?

I know this is a pretty special circumstance but try to make an educated guess and lmk 😅

i think a lot of people on this sub agree that violet will probably finally have a crash out in book 4. but i just want to emphasise everything that girl has been pushing down for the past two books now. her trauma is seriously overlooked.

- loss of friendship with the biggest constant in her life since she was 5: dain.

- she forever has to live with the fact that her own mother cut scars into the love her life’s back.

- tortured for FIVE DAYS. we get minimal details about this particular event besides liam appearing. but seriously this has to be one of the bigger ones and yet no one talks about it.

- lost her mother who died to protect HER. lost the chance to get to know why she did everything she did.

- andarna leaves. which basically almost kills her.

- the one parent who she actually believed loved her unconditionally ended up being the one who thought she needed fixing. so much so, that he was willing to dedicate the rest of her life to temple had her path been certain.

- she’s left bearing the responsibility of an entire province on top of the weight that already comes with being the generation’s only lighting wielder.

- no recollection of her own wedding (which we can assume was not a happy event anyway. and even though they love each other deeply, i would bet that their marriage was more of a war plan rather than a romantic gesture.)

we know violets birthday is early july.

i have a weird feeling that the first reappearance of xaden in book 4 will be on her birthday. maybe through a dream or maybe a gift as a parcel sent to her somehow… but i do think the first time she’ll speak to him after the wedding will be on her birthday. especially since we got xaden’s birthday scene in OS which means this series doesn’t just ignore birthdays.

i think it’ll be cute but also emotional for violet. she’ll probably be crashing out (rightfully so) 😬

what kind of spicy scenes do u guys think we r gonna get in book 4 😬

i know dream s3x is confirmed by rebecca, but do u think that’s all it’ll be between them…. and how does that even work? (i’ve never read a book with that trope before)

i know people are expecting POVs from other characters so potentially other people’s spicy scenes (like imogen and garrick or dain and sloane) but honestly i don’t know if i can picture that…
even though we know sloane is getting a chapter; i just doubt it’ll be smut lol.

“I bet we get seven inches tonight.”

what do we think the prime show soundtrack will be like?

we know prime is really good at curating a great playlist for their shows eg. tsitp and recently, off campus. however, i wonder if the FW series won’t be able to have such modern songs because the vibe of the series itself is more medieval… at least from what i envisioned.

would that mean we’ll have classical renditions of popular songs like in bridgerton? we know RY is a huge swiftie so i feel like she’ll incorporate that into the show. same with the alex warren songs; he seems to be hinting at being a part of the series soundtrack as well… so maybe stripped versions?

what do u guys think?

where or how can one speak about the series in this sub? because with off campus having come out and the boys of tommen update, i really wanna talk about the empyrean show. because im pretty sure we are close to a similar announcement for this series….

i have faith in prime taking on the STORY well. i know a lot of people are complaining about the changes they made to the off campus series, but i feel like those were all tasteful changes, so i have no doubt that the same will be done for the empyrean series.

another thing i can’t understand is how they’ll portray the mind work like shielding, ESPECIALLY since that’s a main part of xaden and violets first ICONIC kiss scene. same with speaking through the bond scenes- i fear it’ll be some cringey echo voice… which is not what i envisioned 😅

i don’t know… this series is SO precious to me that if it’s butchered, i’ll be genuinely upset and i don’t feel that way about other adaptations honestly. but i need this one to be perfect. luckily, i think amazon understands the pressure from this particular fandom so hopefully we won’t be disappointed lol.

i always forget that book 4 is gonna have a decent amount of new characters in it because third years are graduating so there will be new first-years… the ensemble is already pretty big.

it also makes me wonder what role the new characters will play. like aaric and sloane joining as first years each served really good purposes. i’m hoping for a love interest for aaric… or maybe someone’s sibling? like a dain sister who’s never been mentioned… OR even another leadership-kid. like a child of melgren?

I’m an incoming freshman architecture major but I’m also interested in fashion so might be interested in taking some electives. I’ve seen on vergil that there is a FASH0101PS course. Has anyone taken this course or any other fashion course at columbia, and can u tell me what it entails and whether you develop a portfolio in these courses?

HELP NEEDED. if i don’t meet my IB predicted grades, will they rescind me? like if i drop by a point or two in a subject, will that be really bad for me?
